  • No no no, not THAT "Eric M Van".
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/77281/bill-and-jalens-nba-preview-boston-celtics

Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose are back with a breakdown of the Celtics' upcoming season that includes a potential trade sending Rajon Rondo out of Boston and a revelation that Jalen used to routinely deface the Celtics' home floor as a tribute to Larry Bird, all with the help of the Doobie Brothers. Lots of help from the Doobie Brothers.
"Because there are no fours."
-- Antoine Walker when asked why he shoots so many threes

"We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees."
-Jason Kidd

These spots are growing on me, although I wish they hadn't done them all in one go. I have a feeling that the ones at the end might feel a bit dated by the time that we get to them, depending on what happens in the interim.

I am listening to "Minute by Minute" right now.

It seems like they did the Celtics one pretty recently, seeing as they have shots of Humphries in uniform against the Raptors.  But maybe the pics were added later.

Yeah, I think that's just clever editing. Simmons and Jalen never change outfits, if you notice.

I like that Jalen and Bill actually seem to enjoy each other's company. In terms of the actual content though - meh.

We'll see if their certainty about Rondo getting traded ends up being on the money.

Pretty spot on here.  They were a little generous with the rankings.  We could be the worst team in the league.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

Funny video. Simmons is frustrating because he's a great fan and isn't afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve yet his green glasses are just shameful sometimes lol.
I feel like we're gonna be one of those teams that might win games when we shoot well- which was the case with the big 3 as they started to decline.
Unfortunately we don't have that level of quality shooters anymore.
I mean we won 41 games relying on our jumpshooting and defense.
It's going to be a similar style this year except we don't have any shooters and we have a pretty terrible defense out there after Avery+Lee+ Green (until Rondo returns).
People are talking about run and gun like we're going to score in the open court so much.
You need athleticism and skilled wings who can get to the hole and finish on the break- you also need multiple 3 point shooters to pass to on the break.
So basically I think we'll have a small ball policy by nature of our roster- problem is this roster doesn't have the skillset to be a 30 win small ball team particularly now Rondo is out.

I'm excited to see Bradley develop and he's looking good. Sully looked awesome and will only improve with his conditioning. I want them to go to Olynyk regularly and the Sully/Olynyk tandem could be nice.
Brooks, Crawford, Green and Fav are going to keep me surviving, just hoping their trade values go up.
If we're lucky, somehow Brooks gets a starting gig and the minutes to become a very good 2 guard- he seems to be an often overlooked bright spot/asset that we acquired from NJ. He's not a lock but he's got some talent that needs a chance to flourish.

I didn't agree with Jalen about the Rondo trade.
I think Rondo goes if we get equal or return value. If we don't then Danny probably just yanks him for the rest of the season and we officially tank. (unofficially).

Simmons just has no idea about basketball. I mean he's hilarious but his basketball IQ is horrific. He's just a great, passionate fan.
Stevens will be a great coach and is a great coach- he's just an NCAA coach in his first year- he's gonna need a year or two lol.

We might actually look good during the preseason as we force other teams to run whilst they're still catching up with conditioning.
Without Rondo till December though I'm predicting between 20-24 wins all year.

No shooters, completely undersized and over staffed with mediocrity at every position except the PG (where our bright spot is out for 20 games at least).
No rim protection, no inside scoring other than Sully.
Still doesn't mean I don't love em though.
I'm just praying wee make the most out of the drafting/trade opportunity that awaits us. I feel like Danny tries using some picks and waste contracts to get Rondo some help. If that fails he'll either trade Rondo and get more assets or he'll try and draft us a stud at the 4-7 range. If we get really lucky and bink a top 2 pick then I can't ask for more.
I know Danny will do his best.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm a big fan of Simmons. The guy is hilarious to me with some good opinions. Obviously a bias fan a bit but I love his style
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

I feel like with Simmons you have to keep in mind that he's just a super-fan that's prone to hyperbole. He has more connections than your average person, but at the core he just likes sports. He's wrong a lot with his predictions and he'll admit it.

Makes him a good pair with guys like Zach Lowe, IMO, who is less of a personality but brings a lot of knowledge and balance to the table. The duo pods with them are the best.

Yeah and they both think the Celtics will be crap this year.

And so do Chambers, LarBrd33, and a lot of other people.  That doesn't really mean all that much.  Prognosticators get proven wrong all the time.  Just ask the Red Sox.
