I got a chance to catch a little bit of the Chicago-Indiana preseason game last night (flipping back and forth between that and the Sox game).  It was good to see Derrick Rose back.

He showed flashes of the explosiveness that makes Derrick Rose the player that he is.  He also showed moments of hesitancy and a certain level of insecurity on the court.  He had a couple of really ugly looking ball handling turnovers where he just got ahead of himself.

To be fair to D-Rose, he wasn't the only one who looked rusty in his first pre-season game.  Indiana's stars--George and Hibbert--didn't look anything close to in full form either.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I'm glad he's back if he can stay healthy should make for an interesting playoffs in the EC. He looked more Adrian Peterson than RG III that's for sure.

He should look pretty good. He was medically cleared to play, what, 6-7 months ago?

Rose looked very solid last night. I'm glad he's back and I hope he can stay healthy.

Very stoked--Rose is probably my favorite player in the league right now as far as his game in concerned.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I read somewhere he said he is in the best shape he has ever been in, and his vertical has actually improved 5 inches to 42.

Maybe that time out will have improved his shooting. I think he took one jumper last night? His first few free-throws were a bit short but they got better.

That aside, 13 points in 20 mins. is pretty good. Rose being back is good for the league and bad for Miami. Which means it's good for me.

I'm not sure the Heat will have to change their strategy much from that playoff series a couple years ago--LeBron on Rose shut that team down hard.

That team had issues scoring, and while I don't think that problem has been completely taken care of, it has been alleviated by the Bulls additions and the improvement of Butler. I don't expect their offensive to be as Rose-dominant anymore.

Rose had a very high usage % of about 35 in 2011 playoffs. It's unlikely that'll be the case this year.

It's still going to be interesting to watch. A guy thats as explosive and not afraid to charge into 3 defenders as Rose, has to be very careful especially after an injury like the one he had. I love rose I think hes a great player, but I'm not sure he can get back to how he used to be. Hes a very physical player, and the injury he had was one of the worst you could possibly have in sports. I hope he proves me wrong, and I would like seeing him continue to have success in his career, but I just don't see him returning to his old self.

I like Rose, and I think sitting out the season was a good decision for him. He looked very explosive out there on the court vs the Pacers. However, I really hope he doesn't have a Brandon Roy type of career. As some of you mentioned, he is not afraid of charging in front of 3 defenders.

I really don't see the big deal with Rose.  I stilla believe he is one of the most overrated 'stars' in the NBA (along with Paul George) right now.

Rose is a shoot first PG who lacks a consistent jumper.  He's basically a poor man's Wayne Wade - poor man's because he has same scoring talents Wade has, only Wade is bigger, stronger, tougher (mentally), is a better rebounder, a better defender and a better leader

Unlike Wade, I haven't seen Rose push his game to another level in the playoffs and lead his team by his own play.  I haven't seen him show any willingness to play through injury - his doctors cleared him to play months ago, but he sat on the sideline while his team got knocked out of the Playoffs.  He has limited offensive moves - his only offensive talent Is finishing around the basket, and he only scores so much because he takes 300 shot attempts every night.

Did I mention he sucks at defense?

Perfect example of a guy who gets massively overrated via media influence purely because he plays in a flashy way that pleases the camera.  His presence has little impact on Chicago's success, and it wasn't until Noah went down that Chicago really suffered.  The NBA was fine before rose, will be fine after him.

He does have some great signature shoes though.

While I do agree that he is overrated. I love watching him play mainly because he is very flashy. But that also adds to the team as a whole, when you have him on the floor and the stands are getting into it, it really makes a difference. As far as stats, no he really isn't all that special. But he is a franchise player and it's mainly because of that energy he brings to the team.

Yeah, I really trust Chicago's medical staff when it comes to the safe return of their players.

Like how Luol Deng was a game time decision the evening after getting a spinal tap.

Or Omer Asik being cleared to play on a broken leg.
