I got totally different feelings than you guys do from these interviews.
RR didn't say he expected to get traded or I can't hear it correctly b/c it's so low. He said he thought he had been traded b/c so many people were texting him (like 45 txts). How can you tell his relationship with those guys isn't good or close one? He has said out his own mouth that he and KG are very close and KG has said it numerous times (both have). He didn't feel anything b/c he's aware it's a business and that someone would be moved eventually. It's not like these guys are dead and he can never talk to them again, in fact KG has said he and RR keep in touch and will continue to b/c he said RR is a brother. I mean, you can speculate that their relationship isn't a close one when they all say different but I'm going believe them until I see otherwise.
Humph is very excited now unless he is acting, he was in shock at first but now in every interview he has said he is excited (and has been LOOKING like it more than that presser). He has been here for a while training and helping the young guys (not just his words but the players and Stevens have said it). Of all the guys from the Nets he and Brooks seem to be the most excited (I don't count Bogans b/c he's a journeyman and getting paid well over his NBA value). Brooks' excitement is to be expected, he was getting no PT so of course with this opportunity he would be. Hump isn't a young guy and or a rookie so of course he would rather be where he thinks he can contend, that's why I don't blame GW for allegedly not wanting to be here (I just don't get why he waited til he HAD to be here to show up when, EVERYONE else at least came for a day or 2). Hump and his agent said it's the earliest he's ever shown up to a team, that tells me he is ready and wants to do well for the team (his self too). You can say it's for a contract but it's not like it's his first contract so if it was all about that he would do the same thing he has done during those times. He has said he wants to perform well here so he can get a contract to be here long term.
Gerald didn't say anything much that I didn't expect. He said he wanted to hang with his kids but that excuse just doesn't seem that valid to me, yes he wanted to see his kids during his off time but what was he doing the 8 or so hrs a day when his kids are in school (either that or they are all too young to be in school but he has like 5-6 so I'm sure some are)? I'm mean spending time with your kids means you can't use a phone? You can't write a txt/e-mail? He found time for charity (not saying it's a problem), so that means that he had time away from the kids. To me, it just doesn't seem sincere but that's just my opinion. Plus it sounds like he has a cold/allergies or asthma so that threw me off. I think Stevens and co. have gotten into his head and told him about the opportunity he has to resurrect his career and help lead the team (w/ RR and JG) much like he did with the Cats (his words). Let's be real, if someone said you get to play with Nets squad or Celts, anyone who is not a fan or either and wanted to (on paper) have a good chance at competing for a ring, I'm sure most would choose Nets. He did keep saying he was in shock, he also said he went through the period of trying to figure out what he did wrong to know why he didn't get to remain there.
I realize that my opinions may not be shared with many (if any) others but that's the way I took these interviews from MD and other reports b4 today.
I also want to ask, am I the only one cringing when Bass does interviews? Who is his PR coach or w/e call the people who help you with your interview skills? He has been doing this far too long to still sound like that. He gives short answers and he says "um" a lot. I don't mean short answers like RR, that's RR's personality and he can (when he wants to) give clear and sensible answers. They ask Bass things like, "how was your off season?" and Bass would answer "good" or "cool", leaving the interviewer to ask him a hundred questions to get anything out of him worth hearing. When he was with Emily, Mike, and JG they kept asking JG the majority of the questions. They asked Bass about the swimming but used most of the time to ask JG questions. They did ask questions that were meant for both of them but I found myself wanting JG to answer them instead of Bass but he was there so he had to. He did have one good answer during the interview but honestly, I don't remember what it was about.
They said Kelly gives good interviews (I agree) but the interview I enjoyed the most was Stevens'. He makes me feel like I could go out there and play and go down fighting, I can't imagine what he can do for people who can at least dribble a ball lol, much less the guys on the team. I just really like him regardless of how he does as far as win/loss.
