My first thoughts are, 'is illogic a word?'. My spellcheck says it is, but my head check says no.
Didn't Spock always complain about humans being illogical?

Yeah illogical is obviously a word, I just don't think I've ever seen 'illogic'.
'Your illogic is baffling'. I've just never seen it like that.
As far as Doc never wanting to see a rebuild, I think he was really wishy washy on it. He saw what happened to Rays Boston credentials when he booked in the changing times. I think 100% his master plan was to ride out as much of his contract as he could, then go back to the booth for a while, and after an appropriate amount of time, coach another team, or even come back to Boston.
And then this opening came about, and..then he got to thinking. Then it fell through, and he got to thinking again, then he decided he just didn't want to go through a rebuild, and the deal got done.
