Sources: Competition Committee votes unanimously to return NBA Finals to 2-2-1-1-1 format. Owners' approval to come.

I always thought it was disadvantage to both teams with the 2-3-2 format.

Excellent. I really dislike the 2-3-2 format.

It's about [dang] time! The 2-3-2 format was a terrible idea and archaic.

The only people who're going to be at a disadvantage are the media types. I feel for them, but this is much better.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

About freaking time....it was changed after the 1984 Season---where ONCE AGAIN, the Celtics Beat LA---!
Stern was tired of this saga---so in 1985 it went 2-3-2...Lakers Win-!

of course this is just my take on things.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

I guess then that the series takes longer than the 2-3-2 format if it pushes through 7 games. The last 3 games will deal with a lot of travel coast to coast.

I like this "new" format though.

Hated the 2-3-2 format. Good news.

The league has used the 2-3-2 format in the Finals since 1985, when long commercial travel in frequent Finals between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers had become tedious. All teams now fly their own charters, and the travel is easier.

Love the new format. Hate the new schedule.

It's still a 7 game series - has it been confirmed it'll take more days?  Usually playoff series are keyed to have their biggest games on weekends, I'm assuming they'd still keep that the same.

that sounds great! I always hated the 2-3-2 format. Even though 2010, I always felt that we are very very very capable of eliminating the Lakers in 5. Taking game 2 and finishing them off at our own court

Weekends are irrelevant except for the fact that they can have day games on the weekend, meaning people can watch more games. On weeknights, you really only have 2 times slots.

From my recollection, the Finals are Tue-Thur-Sun. Which of those 3 days it starts on depends on the length of preceding series. I believe they usually they have 2 possible start dates prepared, and if series go long, they use the second.

Of course, they have no idea which of the games will be the big games.

Great, they can find a way to drag it out even longer now. Keep 2-3-3 and return the first round to best of 5.
Peace through Tyranny

The 2-3-2 format actually disfavors the team with the better record. It never made sense to me. You work hard all year so you can supposedly have home court advantage and sure you get the first two at home but through 5 games the other team actually has home court advantage, then through 6 games it's just even. It's not until game 7 that you finally get home court advantage.
With the 2-2-1-1-1 as the team with the better record has home court advantage after 5 games, then it's even after 6 and then they get it again at game 7.
