Sounds like Stevens likes Avery Bradley:

Quote
"I don’t know exactly how we’ll progress from here as far as that goes with regard to, if Rajon is in, who’s in what role, but I know Avery will be on the court," Stevens said.

"I think he’s a guy that, when you look at him on both ends of the floor, he’s a guy that I think we can fit in well offensively at the point guard spot. I think he’s really excited about playing it. And then defensively, he can be elite."

I am not surprised by this.  I don't buy the "Avery Bradley is not a point guard" argument.

Neither was Chauncy Billup for what, 6 years?

I think this is a great opportunity to give AB some run at PG and I applaud Stevens for planning on giving him the chance.

Not gonna get excited about this until he actually shows some PG skills. I guess if he can become at least as good a passer/handler as someone like JCraw, I can stop from puking on my shoes when he has the ball.

Happy to eat crow, though. I love AB.

I think Bradley's biggest weakness is his left hand.  Last season, he avoilded dribbling with the left.  I suspect the shoulder may not have been 100% just based on how he seemed to favor it but I don't know.

That is no small issue.  I hope he is working on it.

I'd really like some more insight on how Stevens came to the conclusion that Bradley fits in offensively at the point.

My guess is he looked at the other options and figured at least this guy is good at one thing, the others all suck at everything

Bradley at point guard . . . best playmaker in the lineup will be Lee.

This team might not average more than 85 points a game.

I'd like to see the 2 guard set up much like dj and ainge in the day.  You could argue dj was a point guard as he mainly brought the ball up but he was a defensive player who played guard.  Granted both guys (and bird) had good assist averages .  I would like to see bradley and the next top guard be it lee, brooks etc be the guards.  Whoever brings the ball up brings it up.  If we are controlling the boards I'd like to see tommy ball and fast advances of the ball and everyone running.  No need for great ball handling skills 1 on 1.  good team ball movement!

You don't need 1 guy (Rondo) getting 10+ assists for the team to be good.  Multiple guys getting 5-6 assists each is much harder to defend (Like on the Bird teams).

There is nothing wrong with one person getting most of the assists (much like one guy getting most of the points isn't "bad"), but it certainly is not the only way skin the cat.

Multiple guys getting 1-3 assists, though...

As of now I'm skeptical that Bradley as the starting one on offense can work in any situation beyond a setup that is Triangle-esque in its usage of the point.

bottom line is, unless Jeff Green learned how to dribble with either hand and not pass to the other team when double teamed, we're in trouble

Unless Stevens/Danny think Bradley has a long term future as a point guard, I think setting him up to be our PG until Rondo returns is a big mistake.

The kid has not had a single normal offseason until now. He should be spending this summer and training camp working 100% on being the best SG possible. Why distract him with learning a position he may never play full time?

Give him some stability. Let him play SG, hopefully healthy and starting, for a full season. His next contract is looming and now is the time to really learn what the kid can do.

I'd rather have someone else play PG until Rondo gets back. It's not about wins and losses right now, it's about properly developing our young talent.

I don't see how playing PG full time for a few months is going to hinder his development in any way.

How much more valuable is Bradley if he can develop to the point where he can play the point?  He won't get the same chance once Rondo is back.  This is is a golden opportunity to derive something good out of Rondo's injury.

Even if it doesn't work out (and I think he will be fine as a PG), I would think the experience would still benefit him even if he only plays SG the rest of his career (which he won't, at worst, he will be a combo guard).

Well, if they don't give up more than 80 ... welcome to Butler Ball, NBA-style!

What are the choices if Rondo isn't able to start the season? Pressey and Bradley?

I think I would be saying that Bradley is the starter at PG until Rondo gets back too, if those are my only choices. Its not like this roster is loaded down with floor generals that can handle the ball, run an offense, bring the ball up and guard NBA quality starting PGs.

And please, I don't want to hear Pressey can do it because from what I saw in Summer League, he is a major work in progress.
