Was there any real doubt that he wouldn't clear waivers? Who is going to claim him at $1.1 million when they can sign him for $500,000 or so after he clears waivers.

As I said elsewhere, I think he's played his last NBA game.

I think Melo has enough potential that there should be teams interested in bringing him in for a camp invite with an eye towards making him one of their last pre-season cuts so that they can have him assigned to their D-League affiliate.

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel speculates that the Heat might be interested in bringing in Melo to compete for a spot if they can dump Joel Anthony's contract, since Miami was supposedly going to draft Melo if he fell to their spot.

Adrian Woj-a-whatsit tweeted that there was a chance a team would claim him, so I think there was some legitimate doubt. Ultimately, I think the difference between his salary and what you could sign him for at the minimum was too great for most teams to claim him off of waivers when they had a chance to sign him for less.

Doesn't MEM save zero money by waiving him? Why not run him through training camp and preseason at least, and then cut him?

If I'm right about the money, it seems like the Grizzlies must be 100% sure that Fab would have shown them nothing in camp, and that literally anyone else would be a better use of a roster spot. That's pretty bad.

Fab isn't a 19 year old kid , what is he like 24 now ?  He needs to really get his mind right and take his game to China or wherever somebody will give him court time and work like a maniac to try and get a NBA game MIND and BODY .  I think he can improve the body ...the brain ...I'm not so sure......he doesn't have the work ethic or killer instinct nor appears to have a natural feel for the game in general.

Bad pick ....oh well I was totally wrong as well.

he was born June 20, 1990. in the time it took to write the guess above, you could have googled this fact and been right instead.

if melo had not been a celtic, no one would care here. but since he was, we have threads galore dedicated to him. i wish him luck.

I thought you were kidding. Sheesh.

He will get two checks, but only one will be from a team in the U.S...
