Royce White to open mental health institute in Houston

This is noble of him. I wish this guy the best as he seems so troubled and, of lesser import, so talented.

I have to admit, one of the first things that came to mind was a wise-crack at White's expense, but someone in the comments section of SI took care of it for me.

Yup. Sad bc he could of been a poor man lebron if he kept at it. A beast at 6'8 260 pounds That rebounds like a pf and can handle and pass like a pg. In college against marquee teams took his game to another level

A team like Philadelphia (where he actually is) wouldn't be that bad as he can get to a number games within 10 hours (or so) without flying (i.e. close to Boston and the 2 NY teams and not terribly far from Cleveland, Washington, Atlanta, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Detroit, Toronto).  Just needs to hire himself a driver to drive him all night after games while he sleeps.

I actually saw some of those games, while he does turn the ball over a bit, there is undeniable talent there. Not a great shooter, but come on, I agree with poor man Lebron. Lebron coming into the league wasn't a great shooter as well. I want to root for the kid, and wishes he solves his phobia soon!

I think once he gets comfortable he will start flying.  He just needs to be comfortable, which might take longer than a team wants to wait, but I think he can get there if the team really works with him and makes the effort.

yep, my thoughts exactly. These things takes time and should not be rushed, The question is, does the 76ers wants to wait and help White. Because the Rockets didn't held onto him for long (well for many reasons besides that, but still!) Is Philly patient enough to wait a season or two before he is ready to play all 82 games and fly with the team?

Is he funding it?  I didn't read that.  It said that his non-profit organization is building this.  Just because he started a non-profit, does not mean he has actually put a penny into it.

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't have much to do with the non-profit at all.  It may just be a venture that someone got him to attach his name to, because he is a very public face, that is connected with their cause.

We wont know. But he was a consistent performer for the most part in his last year before declaring, except for defense.

76rs have nothing to lose imo. Maybe the personnel will change his mind about flying. Maybe once money runs dry he will change his mind.
