There was a lot of buzz after the KG/Pierce trade that suggested Boston would look to trade Rondo next.  There also was a lot of buzz that suggested Boston was unlikely to hang onto Gerald Wallace and Kris Humphries.

Folks like Bill Simmons took to twitter:

FYI: Celts aren't moving Rondo unless they can dump multiple contracts in the trade. They want to fully bottom out while creating cap space.

I'm intrigued by these Mavs-Celts rumors. Would Dallas take on the Wallace/Lee/Bass contracts with Rondo for Larkin + Marion/VC expirings?

Just an FYI that Kris Humphries can't be packaged in deals until September 2nd.  Gerald Wallace can't be packed in deals until September 12th.

Seems to me, rumors could heat up in a couple weeks once a deal is actually possible.  For example... Pistons apparently want Rondo.

I'd gladly do this:

Rondo - 2 years 11 mil
Wallace - 3 years 10 mil

for

Charlie V - 8 mil expiring
Stuckey - 8 mil expiring
Drummond 3 years 2.4 mil

... Dump some bad money and get a young prospect for Rondo.  Of course, Detroit is very unlikely to give up Drummond for Rondo, but it's something to think about... those trades aren't even possible until September 12th.

Nope -- I think there is very little chance of Humphries or G-Wallace being traded. I don't expect Rondo to be moved either. The roster now is the roster I am expecting to begin the season.

The rumors will undoubtedly pick up, but I expect that as usual they will be mostly false.

I doubt any major trade happens before the season starts.  If something is to go down, I think it will be much more likely around the trade deadline.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I expect rumors to pick up because there are a lot of idiots with Twitter accounts who like to post nonsense.  I don't expect an increase in rumors with actual substance behind them.

If you're an idiot with a twitter account, capitalizing on the September 12th date is a good way to make a believable rumor.

I don't even think it'll be that low-level.

ESPN will be looking to kill time and some poor staffer will say "well, uh, Kris Humphries can be traded today," and then they'll build 24-48 hours of coverage out of that. Twitter and the rest of the internet will react accordingly.

wouldn't there have to be a lull in the trade talks first  ;)

well at least one thing is consistent, your low opinion of anyone in a C's jersey and how anyone not in a C's jersey is so much better than what we have  ::)

I don't get the fascination for trading Rondo, especially for crap.  expiring salaries and young players with speculative potential (and isn't all potential speculative) = crap.

If Rondo gets traded it won't be for the purpose of dumping salary.  it has to net a player of equal quality with other assets or a better player --> and those aren't being traded.

During football season ESPN doesn't need to kill time with nonsense random thoughts about the NBA.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal
Wings -  Lebron James

Why would they squander the opportunity for some easy clicks?

Single game tickets go on sale on September 21st.  So, I would guess that Rondo won't be on the trade block anytime before then.

My guess is if Rondo is going to be traded (which I don't believe he will be soon), it will either be during camp, kind of like the Antoine trade, or it will be closer to the deadline, after he shows he is healthy.

I think once camp opens up though, Danny could revisit other trades to try to clear more payroll and roster spots.

I really wouldn't be shocked to see Danny try to get a team like Philly (still way under the cap) to take someone on.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
depends how badly we want to bottom out.
I think Danny will probably keep Rondo under contract as long as he can. He really doesn't need to trade Rondo to make us terrible.
Rondo needs good shooters to be at an All Star level because he can't score freely enough on his own.
The way Ainge has constructed this team we probably don't win more than 30 games with Rondo given how bad our front line is and lack of shooting/size/skill inside.

Rondo will sit a few stretches of games, which loses us an extra 5-10 games that we would win with him against bum teams.

Less than 25 wins and a good shot at a top 3 pick is very achievable whilst retaining Rondo.
Really no reason to give up our only keystone to attract other free agents a season from now.

We can keep Rondo whilst hopefully getting lucky in the draft. If we can't lure Aldridge, Love, Carmelo or Durant here then we'll still get a nice pick, and then we can move Rondo before his time is up, or re-sign him and try again. He won't be in his prime for another 2-3 seasons anyway.

My only fear is that he takes on too much responsibility during the regular season and his rough and tumble style scores him another bad injury that shortens his career.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I am not convinced that Det would trade Drummond for Rondo straight up, nevermind also taking on a bad contract in exchange for an expiring one.
