Wilcox has played 89 games in his 2 year stint with the Celtics. Rondo really makes Wilcox look good.

I'm still waiting for Ainge to find a durable version of rich man's Wilcox or poor man's 39 year old Shaq to pair with Rondo. Frustrating how difficult this seems to be.

I agree, Rondo and Wilcox are the future and we should have a great chance at winning the 2014 nba championship if we sign Wilcox to the vet min again.

I saw that video and it's just frustrating that we have yet to find a big man that can run with Rondo. We have a decent rotation of big men that are all sufficient rebounders but none of them look like the type of big man to run straight down the lane pulling the defence in with him on a fast break (exception of Bass sometimes, can't put these expectations on Faverani either)

I'm a little surprised nobody has signed Wilcox to at least a vet min deal.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
It's never been about shooters it's about being able to move without the ball, catch and convert. If you can catch the ball clean in scoring position and then convert the shot your likely going to succeed playing with Rondo. Rondo made Perk a good finisher, he made Shaq look good again, he made Wilcox look like he could be more than a 3rd stringer. I think the same principle applies with AB. If your ready to score after you catch the ball Rondo will make you look good.

Chris Wilcox was the most efficient scorer in the league last year.  Based on that video, it's easy to see why.

I wouldn't mind having him back.

Injuries or not... for the vet min, why would you not bring him back?

Vid was also a nice remainder of how filthy Rondo is :)

Jeff Green has the hops, the speed and the health, and to take over the role of primary finisher on those Rondo alley-oops. Plus he has additional offensive and defensive tools that Wilcox didn`t have. Reckon on the team we have now Wilcox`s offense is an expensive luxury

Rondo yes, Wilcox no. Without Rondo, Wilcox won't be getting good looks like those. Don't get me wrong, I like Wilcox, and I love how he runs the floor very well for a big man. He can also rebound decently. For the vet minimum I really don't see a reason as to why we should not bring him back. However, saying Rondo AND Wilcox is the future is silly. Rondo is hard to replace, but Wilcox on the other hand is very replaceable.

Been so long since I've seen Rondo play - I forgot how fantastic he is at finding guys for easy baskets.  He really does connect on some incredibly difficult passes in traffic.

I think all Rondo needs is a guy who has good hands (to catch Rondo's crazy passes) and who is a skilled finisher aroud the basket.  Wilcox and Sullinger both meet those criteria, and both played very well with Rondo.  I think Olynyk will trive as well being on the receiving end of Rondo's passes because he's a high IQ player who thinks quick and always know what to do on offense.

I honestly thing that Bradley, Sullinger and Olynyk are three guys who are going to really thrive being on the other end of Rondo's passes.  Bradley is an elite cutter, Sullinger is outstanding around the basket, and Olynyk can score from pretty much anywhere.  Adding Jeff Green gives us another guy (in addition to Rondo) who can create his own shot.

Rondo -> Bradley -> Green -> Sullinger -> Olynyk

I think that has the potential to be a MUCH better team than what people are giving credit for.  Those guys compliment each other very well and not one of them is a selfish ball hog, which suits playing with Rondo (who needs the ball in his hands to be effective).

Even the bench doesn't look THAT bad:

Pressey -> Lee/Brooks -> Wallace -> Bass -> Hump

That is certainly no worse than the bench (Dooling, Daniels, Pietrus, Stiemsma, Hollins) that we made the ECF with in 2012.

I think Bass is the odd man out because he has terrible hands and is a poor finisher around the basket.  He catches the ball, goes doesn (waits for defender) then tries to go back up into the defender ends up taking a challened shot almost every time.  The only time he really works with Rondo is on the catch-and-shoot from midrange.

I think the real essence of that video is not that we need a big man who can run the floor, more that we need a big man who knows how to roll after a pick.
We're so used to those pick and pop plays from Rondo with Garnett or Bass that we forget how good an actual big man with hard screens and direct rolls to basket can be.

If we stick to Rondo in the future i hope we find a big man with a good pick and roll game combined with decent defense.

So where do get such a big? On the current roster Faverani seems to want it the most. Sully and the Klynyk strike me as the most moldable to be the roll guys. Do we bring in a crusty old vet or another prospect?

Exactly. The Rondo/Shaq combo was even deadlier than Rondo/Wilcox, and that was not because Shaq was the lead man on the break :)

It was a joke hence why it was silly.

It's not just Rondo who needs shooters, every team does.  Every good team needs shooters or you have to have to play maniacal defense to win games.  On Rondo-based team specifically, you might need "more shooters" in theory just because Rondo provides less shooting than most teams get from their point guard. I know Rondo can hit the jump shot and he shot them really well last season but he doesn't hit or take threes (nor many free throws) so his offensive efficiency is below-average and a team needs to make up for that at other positions.  Unfortunately we've been making that up the past three seasons by having power forwards who can only hit mid-range jumpers.
