Very interesting, did not have enough time to read the whole thing, but I will say that I will be extremely disappointed if we are slow half court team.
I won't. Certainly we should take the fast-break opportunities that are given to us, but many times a fast-break on one end can lead to a similar break on the other end, since your defense is out of position after the made bucket, and even more so if you fail to convert. And there's nothing wrong with being patient in the half-court set that you're going to be in even if you run a little more than the average team.
Also, almost every team is going to find most of their offense in the half-court, so it's important to be able to execute in that setting to the best of your team's ability. Houston was the fastest team in the league last year, and had a whopping 4.6 more possessions per game than the Celtics, or one more per quarter. Assuming that Houston opponents had an equal amount of possessions (they essentially do) the average possession for each team ina game Houston played was 14.6 seconds. Contrast that to the average length of a possession in a Celtics game of 15.3 seconds. That's what, one more Rondo dribble per possession?
The Celtics played a little more slowly, but not much more slowly, than the Rockets (who tried to live up to their name). And the Celtics were tied for 16th in that stat this year, so pretty much the dead middle of the league.
