I dont skateboard but I snowboard and when a small kid or newcomer cuts in front of you while your doing your thing its near impossible to dodge, although skateboarding you can just jump.

I would've hit her back, but then again I would have seen someone coming right at me. (he wasn't looking ahead.)

he had just landed when he hit the kid, so no, he couldn't jump, and it's understandable that he was watching his board to keep his balance after landing instead of looking ahead.

The skateboarder was looking down the entire video. I'm not sure I ever saw him look up so once he launched on that last jump, there was nothing he could do.

That said the whole incident was an accident and the lady had a massive over-reaction to what happened. Her first concern should have been her child's welfare and not starting a fight over what amounts to two kids running into each other at a park.

Of course, this type of reaction from young parents seems to be rather common in cities all across America nowadays.

I coulda sworn MLK's message had something to do with loving your neighbor and non-violence. Whatever. Trash be trash. The woman had like 5 minutes to think about it too. The kid is about 4 or something. You'd think he never bumped himself before or never climbed anything.  What's she gonna do when the kid wants to play football and some other kid pancakes him?

my first reaction was that if it was my kid I'd have planted that kid on the skateboard -- probably because I see a lot of inconsiderate jerks on boards where they show no consideration for anyone else.  that and I wouldn't let a kid that young get that far away from me unattended -- particularly if it was near a skatepark.

if the kid wandered into a skatepark, shame on the mother.  if the skateboarder was on a public sidewalk, shame on him.

Which kid? The kid that got punched or the kid that got run over accidentally?  Everyone is someone's kid is all I'm saying. Thank God the other mother wasn't there too or Jerry Springer coulda had his show lineup for the next month

Nice punch, lol.

It's only natural for a mother to overreact when it comes to a child that young.

I think the push was enough, but I understand.

Generally speaking I try not to let the boy run around things bigger than him that move in a fast or unpredictable way, but sometimes getting knocked over is part of the learning process. So is touching something hot

in a largely unrelated question, isn't it funny how skateboarders film each other all the time when they are skating at the local park, but basketball players never film each other's games in local pickup games?

I can't imagine having a friend tell me "while your waiting for next, can you film this next 3 on 3 game in case I make an awesome post move or behind the back pass?

Think about it like a hoops mixtape.

It's the same thing, and it happens everywhere.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I don't know man, ever been on YouTube? There's a ton of random videos of people playing ball.  Although I agree not to the extent of skaters.

But i think it's the dynamic of the sports.  Skaters don't generally tape themselves just skating from point A to point B, but doing tricks.  Remember the And1 days, there were tons of people taping themselves trying to do tricks, that's what half the mix tapes consisted of, random entries.

You find a guy at the park trying hard dunks or doing trick shots, I bet you there will be someone there taping him, to the same extent that guys doing skating tricks are taped.

Edit: Ah I see D.o.s. had the same thought as me.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Accidents happen honestly. The little kid was just running towards the guy (obviously he's a little kid, what more could you expect from him). Skateboard guy couldn't dodge. Kid cries, skateboarder tried to help him up. Okay I understand that.

Random lady walks up and throws a blow to skateboarder's face. Now that could've EASILY been avoided. The worst that could've happened for the skateboarder was probably pay for the kid's injuries.

I hope the guy sues the woman for punching him, and the family sues the guy for running over a kid with a skateboard, if there were any major injuries. No-win situation for both sides it would seem at the end of the day, sigh lol.

If that is a skatepark, then the mother is the idiot and the dude should have puncher her back. If that was not a skatepark, than the skater is an idiot and deserved the punch.

Pretty simple.

... because in basketball the goal is to win a game.

A lot of skaters will probably think "look at those jocks competing about who's the best baller. pfsh."

And then if they want to draw a similarly out-of-whack comparison, they could mention how "I just don't get why they can get so upset about a little tap on the wrist. I break bones and walk it off!"

The little kid ran right into his path, it was impossible to avoid. Parents should watch their kids better instead of having them run off in a public area, regardless of whether it was a skate park or not. Plus punching people is not a good idea especially in this situation.
