If we trade Rondo for a lottery pick, we will have a better chance at the #1 pick. Our future would be incredibly bright with Wiggins and another top pick in the 2014 draft like Rabdle, Exum, Harrison, Gordon, etc... My dream would be to draft Wiggins and Randle if we get lucky in the lottery. We would be set for at least 10 years. Wiggins and Randle WILL be superstars.....but it is very very very unlikely that we get one of them let alone both

Not really. I don't quite believe in trading top-tier talent for top-tier potential.

The Greg Odens of the world kind of frighten me.

I would, but only  for a potential top 7. But any one with a potential top 7 most likely wont.

rondo is a 3 time all-star. the whole point of a lotto pick is crossing your fingers for all-star talent. what would be the point?

i cant believe how under-appreciated rondo is.

It's very unlikely that we get one of them even if we trade Rondo for another lottery pick. It's not a smart trade.

Why would you trade a proven top-tier talent for the chance of getting a top-tier talent? Beyond that, the value of draft picks have shot through the roof recently for CBA-conscious executives, and considering the hype over 2014, the value of a 2014 lottery pick is going to be especially high.

just a stunningly bad idea.  tell you what give me 20 bucks and I'll give you 10 powerball tickets.  odds aren't much better in the draft

I'd probably trade him for a pick after the season if someone wanted to give us a top 3 pick, but that's not likely.

As for during the season, no. You'd have to trade him before the trade deadline, and he'd probably dramatically improve the team he would be going to. If that team won an extra 5-10 games over the rest of the season, that pick would not be worth Rondo.

If I knew Rondo couldn't play at all this year, I might trade him to a bad team for their 2014 pick, a young player, and another pick a few years into the future.  For instance, if he couldn't play, I'd trade him to Philly for Noel, this year's pick, and maybe something in 2018.  (Considering they got Noel and a 2014 pick for Jrue Holiday, this isn't a completely ridiculous offer, just merely an offer that won't happen).  Something like that would give the C's the potential for two top 5 picks, and that could be a serious reboot.

I'd generally prefer to keep Rondo, but there are certainly offers centered around 2014 lottery picks that would make me change my mind.  I don't expect any of them to happen, however.

The team should only trade Rondo for specific players, not some chance to get a player.

Whose lottery pick? That makes all the difference.

I would never trade Rondo straight up for a lottery pick unless it was a guaranteed top 4/5 2014 lottery pick and we were already well on our way to our own lottery pick in the same range.

There is no way I trade away Rondo for the HOPE that we get LUCKY in the lottery and end up with a Wiggins type talent. I would need to be fairly confident that the pick would be top 5, which is not only very hard to ensure, but the fact that Rondo would be heading to that team means that they could very well improve enough to reduce the value of the pick we get.

i wouldn't be opposed to trading Rondo for a pick, but I assume that if it's such a valuable pick that I'd be willing to trade Rondo for it, then the other team is most likely not interested in giving it up.

I think this is hard to answer becasue all lottery picks are not created equal.  Probably not for a pick from a team that just missed the playoffs.

If the question is whether to trade now with a team we think will be in the lottery, that would be tough.  Maybe Phili as they project to be a really bad team but in general, I don't think you would want to trade Rondo and then hope the team is bad.

If it got to the point where you knew the trading partner was goind to get a top 5 pick in 2014, I think I would do that but even that is hard to say.  If Rondo comes back and has improved his shooting, maybe not.  If it is the same Rondo (teams sagging off him all the time becasue he hasn't established himself as a shooting treat), yes for a top 5 pick.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If it was a top 8 pick then I'd say yes.
It depends if we want to blow it up then of course.
If we are thinking of making a run at some 2014 or 2015 free agents then obviously not because we need him.

Hard to tell what Danny will do until the All star break and Rondo shows the league what he's worth.
Danny might just go all in for the draft and trade Rondo at the All star break for another high pick If he can get one.
He may figure if he can put two top 10 picks with Sully and Olynyk then we're better off.

What people aren't considering in this thread is that Rondo is up for free agency soon so it may be worth moving him before he walks to new york or los angeles in 2014.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
