Shhhhhhh.... this story was planted by Danny Ainge----in hopes of getting some GM to bite- on his inclusion in a Wallace or Bass deal.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

hopefully hard work pays off for this kid...I don't know why some people are still bashing the kid? We know he sucks, but do you rather him do nothing about it?

I see a kid who is trying to work hard to be good at the game and that is very respectable. If he continues to suck, we can let him go at anytime, but what if his hard work DOES pay off...we got ourselves a 7 footer that is good...
keep working hard Fab!

We do have one other 7 footer who is good. And his name is Olynyk
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

I haven't been the biggest Fab fan, but I respect a good work ethic in any Celtics player. Hopefully he can get better and earn some minutes.

Celtic big man Fab Melo is in the gym... Coaches say he's been working hard 10 straight days, very motivated.

Most guys in the NBA do this, especially borderline goes. Whoopdeedo.

Does labeling melo a bust, do realize he has played in limited amount of Nba games ?. Probably around 5 games or so. Maybe even less, so how the hell is he a bust. I don't get Celtics forums sometimes. Dude has played 97, 98 percent of his games in the D league and yet he is labeled a bust. Doc is to blame for this. He never played melo or gave him a change to showcase his skills to see if he belonged in the nba or not.

Until I see him play in the Nba for a full season, I refuse to label him a bust. That's would be unfair to him.
Well, your opinion is a valid as anybody's.  He may or may not turn out to be a bust.  From what I've seen, I'm not optimistic about him, and yes, it's based on limited viewing of him; a couple of summer leagues and a handful of D-league games.  I barely even consider his snippets of garbage-time in the few NBA games he played in.  Just a general perception of his movement, demeanor, feel for the game, his learning curve thus far, etc, etc.  Being fair to him has nothing to do with it.  He probably has just this year to show a significant amount of improvement or he may well be cut before next season.

TP > McNoob

As a coach / GM,this year for me would be a total evaluation year for me.

I'd move the Vets (Hump,Wallace & bass - I could live with Lee and his contract) and play the crap out of the young guys, including Fab.

Fab / Faverani / Iverson
Sully / Olynyk
Green / Whoever... Mitchell?
Bradley / Brooks
Rondo / Pressey

By the end of the year they all hopefully grow quite a bit.

Also by the end of the year, I hopefully know which 4-6 players above I feel will be part of my young core moving forward and which ones I'm looking to package in a trade.

I probably hit the lottery for a top five pick this one season, clear more cap by the end of next season and look to add high level Vets in the summer of 2015.

Therefore, as McNoob said, this year is the the year to play Fab heavy minutes - let him sink or swim with his feet to the fire.

The Grizzlies are "working on" a trade that would send Fab Melo to Memphis and Donte Greene to Boston, according to Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal (via Twitter). It's not clear how close the two sides are to an agreement, or whether the deal would include additional pieces.

Looks like Greene has an guaranteed contract according to hoops hype, which would let us not pick up his option and save a 1.3mil/get under the penalty tax.

If this doesn't include a pick or a swap of Brandon Bass for expirings then I don't see the point other than luxury tax reasons...

Yup, the plan has clearly been to get under the tax this season.

Donte Greene is an actual NBA player, even if not a very good one. Fab Melo is... Fab Melo.

Does Wyc want to do this just to avoid paying tax, or for one of the other reasons, like not being a "repeater"? Does being under the tax free up a bigger MLE?

Luxury tax reasons are probably the single most important reason for the Celtics to make a trade this season.

As far as I can tell, this "trade" entirely consists of Memphis wanting Melo and leaking it to one of their local reporters.  I'll go on record right now and say I very much doubt Ainge is going to give away Melo just to get under the luxury tax.  If that's all he wanted to do, I'm sure some team at or below the salary floor would take on the Hump for a second round pick.
