Is he any good as a coach?

If he is, why can't he get a job?

I think Danny gave him one that paid like $100K a year and he said it wasn't enough . .. beggars can't be choosers. I love Chief but if that story is true it makes sense why he may not have gotten another job.

Pay your dues and work your way up the ladder a little bit. C'mon Chief.

Give Chief a spleaf is probably more like it.

He was a great Celtic no doubt, but the rumors used to be that he was a big time pot smoker. Dont know if they were true but in the eighties around Boston, he was one of several players that were supposedly seen multiple times at parties with the weed.

Also as stated, if he was capable of coaching why hasnt he already stepped up? The money will come if he is any good. I would say that Danny knows what he is doing on this one.

I agree about the whole if he was a good enough coach he would have a job right now, but I don't care one iota if the guy smokes weed. I don't see how that would really affect his job performance.

I really like when organizations keep around or bring back guys who've been a big part of their organization over the years, but I don't think you have to waste coaching spots/salaries on them.

Let the guy stay a special consultant to the team and have him come to a few practices to talk shop with the kids. If any of them really click with him they can form their own mentor/mentee relationship, but unless he is particularly skilled at teaching young bigs, I see no reason to bring him as a coach for reasons other than sentimentality.

:o Why wouldn't you? That plays an important role in what type of coach, and more importantly, what type of person he is.

Is that sarcasm? It's hard to tell on the internet.

Im not oposed to it at all.

Every ex nba coach starts coaching with no experience.

I really don't see how he could hurt and at this point its worth a shot.

As for some comments he's made in the past about no one helping jim and being broke or whatever? As usual people blowing it out of proportion. He clearly doesn't have some fancy agent telling him what to say like a robot.

Give him some sort of position and if he seems lile he just wants to show up and collect a pay check (which some people believe) than cut bait. Weve wasted lots and lots more money on stupid things. I mean, wasn't Lucky making 6 figures at one point?

I don't want to derail the conversation, but the view that someone that smokes weed is a bad person is far from universal. If it were we wouldn't have states progressively making it legal medically, or in recent cases, completely decriminalized.

Never said Parish was or is a bad person.

Just to set the record straight, many of the states who are legalizing are doing so purely to make money from tax revenue and regulation much like they do with alcohol. These same states are still drug testing state employess like teachers, state troopers, firemen and public works employees and they still are fired or not hired if they test postive.

I dont want to debate legality of marijuana issues here, just making the point that Chief had a rep of being more interested in being high (in the eighties) that may have damaged or hindered his hirability as a Basketball coach.

If I remember right, scout/PR jobs were around $80-100K.

Chief wanted to coach, getting closer to the $1M range.

That's a heck of a difference.

Imagine a coach pulling up to the practice facility in an old freakin' Impala to park next to the rookies' Benz.

I could see him as a big man coach for Melo and the other Brazilian guy.  We need one now.  KO will need some inside work as well, esp. defense.
