If there was a way to clear our logjam, I'd gladly take him on board.

He's still an elite athlete with intriguing defensive abilities.

I just do not see the fascination with this kid. he had a great NCAA tourney and propelled himself into a top pick with it but has never shown he has the discipline, the drive, the intelligence, or the desire to make himself any better than he was when he left college.

If anything, he has regressed since then. Precipitously regressed, at that. At 26 he should just be entering his prime after years of improvement and instead he is getting worse. Try this one stat, and just this one stat on for size:

For the last two years, while playing primarily PF and C, a 6'9" Tyrus Thomas, has a TS% of.......are you ready for this......41.8%. The exact same number for two straight years.

A head case like Thomas, who seemingly has nothing to offer, is not someone the Boston Celtics need around impressionable young players.

Critical Character Year for Celtics

Talent aside, I would hate for the Celtics to sign this type of player, this year especially.  Half the team is new, half the team is inexperienced (0-2 yrs in NBA), and they have a new coach.  This is far to volatile an environment to bring in a disruptive element, regardless of talent.

This whole discussion seems like an echo of my post on FlCeltsFan's site (http://celticsgreenblog.com/) concerning motivation and the current Celtics at risk.
