I don't pay much attention to basketball at levels below the NBA.  It's been a few years since I've bothered to watch the NCAA title game, for example.

Since I tend to take a defense-first philosophy to team building and have great disdain for scorers with mediocre defense, I just have to ask the people who pay attention more than I do: who are the best defenders among the players projected as possible franchise player?  What player that you think will go in the top five is the most likely to be a future NBA All-Defensive selection?

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Marcus Smart is being pegged as a very good defender by scouts, not sure if he'll be All NBA though.

Aaron Craft is another one, although i read somewhere before that he's not pursuing an NBA career, even though he's got franchise PG potential.

Wiggins has the tools, but according to NBADraft.net he has "Inconsistent motor", so that's not good.

Cauley Stein? Isaiah Austin?

Heard GR3 is pretty good too.

Dante Exum according to Draftexpress is a good defender.

That's all I know.

I would say Willey Cauley-Stein has terrific defensive potential. Very large, athletic/mobile, active hands, and good instincts but needs to be coached up a little.

I'll be keeping my eye on Big Willey this year.
