The Pistons were reportedly one of the first teams in line to talk with the Celtics about a potential deal for Rajon Rondo, once Boston entered a full-fledged rebuild by sending Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets.

Whether due to the offers being low while Rondo still rehabs from a torn ACL injury, or because the Celtics aren’t interested in trading their All-Star point guard at this time, Detroit wasn’t able to pry Rondo from Danny Ainge’s figurative clutches.

Instead, the Pistons went out and got Brandon Jennings in a sign-and-trade on a pretty reasonable three-year deal worth $24 million. But that doesn’t mean that their level of interest in Rondo has changed.

From Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe:

Just because the Pistons acquired Brandon Jennings in a sign-and-trade deal with the Bucks doesn’t mean they’ve lost interest in Rajon Rondo. In fact, they could eventually use Jennings as a trade chip and seek to acquire Rondo. There are going to be several interested parties in Rondo, and that number could increase when he shows he’s fully recovered from anterior cruciate ligament surgery.

The Celtics are in fact rebuilding, but at some point you need to acquire star talent to return your team to relevance, and they already have that in Rondo at the point guard position.

It’s true Rondo’s icy personality may not be a fit for every locker room, and after seven NBA seasons, he may want to take on a leadership role that his younger teammates may not be willing to embrace. Boston has repeatedly said that the team is not shopping Rondo, but GMs will continue to call and make offers because there is a belief around the league that he can be had for not too steep of a price.

Joe Dumars will keep Ainge on speed dial just in case, as the acquisition of Jennings hasn’t changed Detroit’s outlook on Rondo in the slightest.

I think I would have preferred Knight be included in a deal for Rondo, than any one that may involve Jennings.

The article implies Jennings would be traded for something that might entice Boston not trading Jennings to Boston.  At least that is how I read it.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Yeah I saw this on the Globe too.

It looks like these trade talks with Detroit will likely heat up again at the trade deadline.

i dont think jennings is a bad pg but he probably wont be the first option on a good team. seems like a good 2nd or 3rd option or even a sixth man. he's been a good 3-point shooter and a decent ball handler/passer. his defense is a little suspect but that can be improved.

wit all that said, if im not mistaken jennings got to the pistons by sign-and-trade, jus like bogans and ppl are saying that bogans cant be traded till december 15th, im assuming that rule applies to jennings too?

Jennings would have to be part of a 3 team deal...I don't want him here.

29.8% from the floor in the playoffs. Amazing. And he had plenty of help with the Bucks.

They absolutely have some things that we want. It's just that what we want isn't Jennings.

I just don't get Media's and other people's fascination with the Celtics trading Rondo;

Jennings is a volume shooter pure and simple; And No, I don't want to trade Rondo for him;
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

Because the "smarts" around here and in beantown have no clue what they have.  If what we're getting back isn't Lebron or Durant, you don't trade a guy like Rondo.  For nobody.  You don't trade a player that special
