One thing that bothers me is that we don't have a true starting caliber center. Sure, we can play Sully there, but he's undersized. I don't trust Fab Melo for obvious reasons, and we haven't seen what the new guy Faverani can do in the NBA. Humphries is a power forward, and would also be undersized at center.

That being said, who would you guys pick?

Humphries should be our starting center as currently constructed, unless Faverani impresses.

I'd go with Faverani.  It depends on how he looks in pre-season, of course, but his lack of NBA experience doesn't scare me any more than it would if the option was a rookie with prototypical size who is straight out of college.

Faverani.

I think if Rondo comes back in the beginning of the season the line up would be

Rondo
Bradley
Green
Sully
Faverani

KO and Lee first guys off the bench.

I'm surprised Olynk isn't an option here. To me it really comes down to he and Humphries. That decision will tell us a lot about our goals this season too because Humphries is probably the win now option.

If Olynyk is in the game in favor of Humphries, then the center will actually be Sully.

Why do you say that? And wouldn't that be more or less predicated on the matchup?

Wilcox isn't even on the team right?

That is correct.  He is a free agent.

We do retain his Bird rights.

If he can find a team that wants to sign him, maybe Danny can swing a small S&T deal to get something modest for him (like a 2020 2nd round pick).

He also could be included in a package deal, if needed, for salary padding.

While shorter, he's stronger and has a longer wingspan... making him more capable of defending centers in the league. While match-ups always dictate this things, in general, Sully is the player more capable of playing the position than Olynyk.

Sullinger and Olynyk are PF's, neither are centers. Neither of them should be defending the center position. Sully comes closest to being able to defend the 5, but he is certainly not the ideal guy for it.

Fav and Fab *are* centers, but Fab isn't ready and we don't know if Fav is good enough or not. One or both may start at C, but not early in the season.

Wilcox won't be on the squad. Shav was waived, Wilcox was never re-signed.

So, if these are the C's only options, I think Humphries starts. He probably keeps starting until someone beats him out or he is traded.

From everything I have read, KO grew up playing Point Guard.  It seems to me that those skills would translate better to Power Forward than to Center.  His passing abilities, as well as outside shot could spread the floor and make him dangerous.   I actually prefer a center who stays in or near the paint...including back to the basket play.   I hope KO grows into a McHale/.Garnet type power forward.  (Maybe he will be a Magic Johnson type, and play all five positions.   ;) )
