Every time Minny comes up in trade ideas here, it's always centered around trying to get Love. However, after talking to a friend in Minnesota, I'm getting the feel that most people in Minnesota have concerns about their defense and toughness for a potential playoff run. Looking at their roster, who can blame them?

Then I realized their only true SFs are Budinger and Brewer. Shved and Williams can slide over, but none of those 4 really inspire defense or toughness outside of Brewer. Could Minnesota have legitimate interest in Gerald Wallace?

I'm looking at a return package of Williams and Barea being likely, as they make about $9.7M combined, and each with 2 years left on their deals. Neither Williams or Barea make the most sense on Boston's roster, but they still have better fits than Wallace does. Plus, we move from having an awful 3-year contract into two bad (but better) 2-year contracts. Realistically, we can't expect much more from Wallace without adding on further assets.

Of course, this trade is something that'd be more likely in the midseason rather than before the season begins, but it's still something to keep in mind.

Minnesota wouldn't do this.

Reasons:
Derrick Williams is 22 they could get a far better offer than Wallace.
If they really wanted to get rid of Williams they could just not accept the team option for 2014/15 instead of taking on Wallace's awful contract.

Williams is far more valuable than Wallace.  The Wolves won't even consider that.

Guess I'm significantly undervaluing Williams then. Thought he was a tweener who can't really take advantage of his athletic abilities. Reminds me of a Beasley, but obviously without the silly shenanigans.

That's the thing though he still has potential we would have to send out like 2 first rounders and then what would be the point of that? We are rebuilding and really won't get any good offers for Wallace so I don't see the point in trading him.

I don't see Danny doing any more trades that bring on more contracts, unless of course they are non-guaranteed contracts. I think if anything he would want to consolidate contracts and get less contracts back.

Unless the trade between Boston and Minnesota is for a disgruntled Kevin Love or a disgruntled Nikola Pekovic, I don't see that these teams match up for a trade.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
You are forgetting Shabazz and Kevin Martin.

Their front court depth chart -

Rubio and Barea
Martin and Shved
Brewer and Budinger and Shabazz and Williams (and Cunningham)

I like Marcus Smart

Martin is a SG and I highly doubt Shabazz is going to earn significant minutes this year. Even if he does, it's going to be because of offense, not defense. That being said, the earlier posters have already persuaded me why this deal won't work. I really undervalued Williams when typing the post.
