I'd trade my kids if I got enough in return...well 2 out of 3 of them anyway.  How can you say you'd keep someone or trade someone if you didn't know what you'd be getting back?

My take on Kris Humphries for instance, you keep unless you get something that sheds his 12mil salary and gives you an asset.  If you have to take back salary that isn't expiring, what is the point?  I'd be ok with getting pretty much nothing back for Humphries just to clear up roster space and playing time for Sully, Shav, and KO.

His 12mil coming off the books is better for us at this point than a couple second round draft picks or even a 1st from a good team.

If we make no moves and don't pick up any options, next year we drop 21mil off the books and don't have any large increases in the players we still have.  I think that is the way we have to go to really rebuild.

Add to that, Bass becomes actually tradeable, Lee possibly desirable, and Wallace at least plausible to be moved and that 21 could easily jump to 30mil and we wouldn't have lost anyone who is actually important to us moving forward.

We'd trade Humphries for #30 in this year's draft if that was ever on the table. Blink and you'd miss it. This is supposed to be an historically deep draft. Every 1st rounder is a guaranteed multiyear small salary. It's a no-brainer. The problem is we'd have to take on (probably bad) salary from a team to get a 1st for Humphries and I'm not 100% sure I'd do that unless the pick was below 20. Some middling team might want to bottom out after this year's failed attempt. Expiring contracts are useful and even more so when you have a player of moderate talent. A fringe contender could use Humphries to bolster their front court for the second half of a season with almost no drawbacks.

Right now we're somewhere around $71M. With Bogans (@5M), Hump (@12M) and Crawford (@3M) coming off the books are year's end. Humphries is probably the most valuable of the 3 and his trade is almost certainly going to happen. Bogans might have no market and Crawford is going to either have a redeem season or fall out of the league year. We'll also probably have to pay AB more after the season. Letting these expiring go for nothing should be a last resort.
