This has nothing to do with Scola, but what's Danny Ainge waiting for?

When's he going to make his next move?

For those wondering, #Pacers can't trade Gerald Green to #Suns for Luis Scola straight up.

Andrew_Perna

As far as I can tell, they can.

Green for Scola doesn't work if you use the 125%+100K requirement for tax-paying teams, but it looks like the trade will leave the Pacers under the luxury tax threshold, so they can take back 150%+100K.

Right now, based on estimated salary numbers, both Indiana and Phoenix are under the luxury tax, and would be after the trade.  Therefore, I'm not sure why the deal wouldn't work straight up, under the 150% + $100k rule.

It just barely fails under the 125% + $100k rule.

Tomorrow at 3:23 AM.

Pacers still need a bit of an upgrade at the point, but this is a good move for them.

Two posters have mentioned a first being too much for him.  If it's a late first, I don't have much of a problem with it.  I'd imagine it's probably lottery protected as well (just in case).

He's very cheap for what he produces also because of Houston so generously paying over half of his salary.

Scola will be a great fit for that team...their front court is going to be so good!

I can't think of many worse non 7 footers who have stuck around as long as Gerald Green has.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Does that mean Tyler Hansbrough could be available via FA? I would love to have him play for us.

Stevens in his days in Butler has did a tremendous job making these hustle guys very productive (Matt Howard, Andrew Smith) in college. I bet he can make the most out of Hansbrough's energy and passion.

T.Hansbrough signed with Toronto.

I forget the money involved, I think it was something like two years $3-4 million per year. (edit: It was only $2.5 million per annum according to Toronto Star).

Indiana need a backup SG who can shoot to round out their bench

C: Ian Mahinmi, Miles Plumlee
F: Luis Scola, Chris Copeland
F: Danny Granger,
G: (free agent), Solomon Hill
G: CJ Watson

The makings of a top notch bench right there.

Or they can just insert Granger at the 2, Copeland can play the 3.

Mahinmi
Scola
Copeland
Granger
Watson

I would prefer to see them sign a true two guard to put more defensive quickness on the floor.

Courtney Lee would be perfect for that role.

I love this trade for Indy. The best way to beat Miami is still on the interior and they now have a frontcourt rotation of Hibbert/West/Mahinmi/George/Granger/Copeland

The Pacers will trade Miles Plumlee, Gerald Green and a 2014 protected first-round pick to the Suns for Luis Scola.
