PP and KG were the leaders of this team and they are on the 17th or 18th hole if you were to compare their careers to golf.

The problem is at this stage of each of their careers, while they still can be very productive some nights they should no longer be #1 and #2 scoring options for their team.  They should be at best a #3 scoring option or even come off the bench.  They cannot be effective playing 35+ minutes anymore over the course of 82 games + playoffs.

That would never happen in Boston because of their legacy.  Would anyone here agree to put Uncle Jeff in the starting lineup over Paul Pierce? Should KG come in off the Bench for Sully?  Blasphemy!!

So they went to the Nets were PP and KG will be the #3 and #4 scoring options most nights after Deron Williams and Joe Johnson or maybe even #4 and #5 if Lopez is having a good game.

They can play limited minutes even as starters because the Nets have other scoring options and now a decent bench.

Sadly PP and KG had to go so that the future Celtics can grow.

exactly, brooklyn is the perfect situation for them to continue to contend. Pierce and KG will get open looks, and if theyre covered theyre both decent playmakers.

deron williams has 4 legit options to pass to... can you say the same thing in Miami? The nets are underrated right now.

Just to clarify, the reason that the Captain and KG were starting ahead of Green and Sully is because they're better players, even at their advanced age.  As a coach, Doc didn't believe in benching his starters until the guy behind him took his spot through his play.  That never happened.

I agree with this statement. Just look at Avery Bradley and how he took over the starting role and never looked back. That in turn made Ray Allen upset.

Jeff Green went from bench player to starter as well. The thing is, that they deserved it. They worked hard to become starters. Sullinger started to see starting minutes as soon as he played defense, and rebounded well vs Bass.

I say beside them being the 1st and 2nd option on the team, the other factor is their contracts.

Very well stated. They were going to always have to carry the load here if the talent level of the rest of the team remained the same. That wore them down by the end of the season. I want to see KG and PP (especially) able to come into the playoffs refreshed (as can be).

So why is it ok to let players who are not the best option still be the go to guys.  Because they've earned it?  Michael jordans earned the right to play for the bulls but if he can't get the jib done he shouldn't take minutes away from players that will develop.  I agree they nigh needed to go but alot of it was becUae of this type of mentality.  Someone... Doc, kg, pp, someone let their egos get in the way of what was better for the team, and I'm glad the c's realized it was time to move on.  Doc is not a rebuilding coach And pp, kg are not pieces to rebuild on.  Both sides made positive moves.

That is arguable. They definitely are not getting better, they are getting worse. The only way to determine if the next in line (Green, Sully, Bradley) are as capable is to give them a shot.  That never happened other than Bradley for Allen and Green at the end of last year.

Granted, Pierce and Garnett are sure fire HOFers they bring experience and intangibles that the younger players do not have yet and will hopefully attain. Also, KG is a once in a generation player - who else is a defensive beast and can post 20/10 night in and night out? But sadly as we have seen the past few years KG cannot do that anymore on a consistent basis without getting injured.

So it is time to move on.  I have said in the past KG and PP should've moved to the bench to let the younger players shine.  That would also make life easier for them playing against 2nd stringers but that couldn't have happened in Boston for the reasons stated above.

Paul and Kevin's minutes will be reduced, as they should, but they will finish games and when they are on the floor they are both still better players than Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, they just won't have to work as hard....Nets will start 5 potential all-stars..best starting line-up in the NBA?  Probably.

What's this focus of bringing Garnett off the bench for Sully? When the one who has to come off the bench is Bass in the first place. Garnett is fine where he is/was.
