Chris Paul is the best point guard. This is commonplace
Paul took a team with just Tyson Chandler (non scoring big) to the 2nd round of the playoffs, within a game of getting to the Western Conference Finals. Him in clutch mode is scary
That was in 07-08
He had a young Tyson Chandler, David West, Peja Stojakovic, Morris Peterson, Bonzi Wells, Bobby Jackson.
Thats the only year he made it past the 1st round in a Hornets Jersey.
Every playoff appearance was a 1st round exit.
That year.
West avg 20 ppg and 9 rebounds
Peja avg 16
Chandler avg 11 ppg and 8 rebounds
Bonzi, Mo Pete and Bobby Jackson avg 8 points each off the bench.
So don't say that he carried that team. He had good production from the guys.
Obviously you're not playing 2 on 5. Its a team sport
You're not taking into account the amount of points of scored from Chris Paul (points scored of assisted). Face value stats won't explain that
So many times when Paul was on the bench, the offense looked inept. Kinda like when Lebron and Wade go on the bench in the Heat games
Whenever a team can make you somewhat a non factor just by sagging off of you (Rondo), then you can't be looked as the best point guard in the NBA
TP to Timbo for the stats and some reality. Who cares if Chris Paul once made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs? He is an excellent point guard, obviously, but using his playoff success is a horrible argument to prove that. Other than his rookie year, Rondo has never not made it to at least the 2nd round (yes dbl negative). I get that he's had a lot of help, but CP3 hasn't been on awful teams, he just can't turn it on like Rondo can in the playoffs.
Why other gms aren't clamoring for him is unimaginable to me...again, thanks for the vid - a couple of those passes out to Ray for three were ridiculous.
I talked about his playoffs to say with the amount of talent Paul had, Rondo never had to carry a team like that
Its hilarious that many just lookover that he had 3 HALL OF FAMERS he played with, 4 if you count Shaq
And the year Rondo won a title, he was the 4th option, and was benched a number of times during the 2008 NBA Finals
The stats of Chris Paul's teammates means nothing without Paul being the main reason they have those scoring stats
Who on that 08 Hornets team besides David West can score more than 10 points a game without a point guard giving them easy looks?..... I didn't find anyone either
Things you didn't take in to consideration, those Hall of Famers Rondo played with, were old, and way past their primes, all of them were injury prone with the exemption of Paul.
It wasn't like he was playing with a 2003-2004 Kevin Garnett or a 2000-2003 Shaq or a 27 year old Paul Pierce.
They needed Rondo as much as Rondo needed them.
Rondo gave them easy looks.
And that's what being a point guard is all about.
I think the conversation of best PG in the league right now should only include, Tony Parker, Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul, and maybe Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook.
