The difference with Doc and all the other examples is his own words. Ray never said he was going to be the Celtics forever and Danny never promised KG or Pierce to be Celtics forever. (although Pierce in particular has every right to feel a bit bitter). However it was Doc who said he was going to be around during another rebuild when anyone who has followed his career knew that was highly unlikely. I would have zero problem if Doc had said at the time this was security for his family and he would take things as they came just as he coached game to game. Most of us have had to make commitments that were hard to keep. However we should rate each other for how honest we are when we make those commitments.

I will cheer Paul and KG, of course ... with Doc I will remain silent and reticent.

I won't be there, but if I were in the Garden I would cheer, standing O, and stomp for them.  Loved them all.  Will miss them all... hope not too much though.

I have no hard feelings against Doc. Yes, he left while on contract, but he brought something back to the team, so I would cheer him, even if he was stubborn and his rotations were nuts. He's been a good head coach and leader for this team. Be grateful.

KG and PP deserve an standing ovation when they're announced, another big one when they put the video tribute, and yet another one at the end of the game. In between those, the fans need to cheer for the kids in green, Pierce and KG are true Celtics and they'd surely won't like to be cheered against the Cs. Blasphemy!

Jet should be cheered, he tried to win in Green, and he's been traded.

Ray... last year he deserved the cheers during the video tribute, and maybe the boos the rest of the way. I would've liked more to show indifference, and that's the way it should be this year. I got over it, he disrespected himself but got his ring. Congrats, you're South Beach. Heck, I don't hate the Heat anymore, I'm over it now and I'm excited with our young team, in a couple years we'll be contenders again, and then the Heatles will be too old, and they weren't that good anyway, just athletic and protected by Evil Darth Stern. So our future is bright. Kool aid is great!

Huge applause for Pierce & Garnett.

Ambivalent silence for Doc.

I'd give Doc polite applause.  Standing O for the Captain and KG.

Definitely cheer, especially for Paul Pierce, one of the greatest Boston Celtics ever.

Obviously, revere and cheer KG & Paul. Doc gets respect with strong applause, but nothing too emotional. KG & PP were rocks for us.

All of these guys deserve respect for what they did.  Don't let the business side of basketball ruin the memories.

You cheer. If you don't you're a bit of a punk. They are all good guys and deserve recognition for what they did for us.

I'm likely to shed some tears when Paul Pierce returns to the TD Garden wearing another uniform.  I'll definitely give him a standing O in my living room.  Same for KG.

Doc?  I don't know.

Doc?  I don't know.
Doc was instrumental in helping build and coaching a team that won a title and was close to a second one. He also brought in value on his way out. He deserves a good hand.

I agree with all that.  I'm sure I will give him a hand.  I just don't think my emotions will be as strong as seeing Paul Pierce return to Boston wearing another uniform.

Absolutely. I'm not even sure whether jumbotron highlights and a standing O, however long, can do his career with the Celtics enough justice.

Of course they can't.  I'm getting a little misty eyed just having this discussion.
