I'm not sure I would. I definitely wouldn't until I saw the ACL healed and saw Rondo being a good team player/leader.  That's just me.  I'd also want to see how his shot was doing. Because if he shoots 39% when he comes back, because defenses key on him.....you can keep Rondo.

They already have a young Knight who will now have some great teammates.

If they want a young, fast, pouty, pg that can't shoot (you have to admit Rondo has earned that reputation, fairly or not, to at least some degree) you can always get Jennings for less money, and he isn't coming off an ACL.

Just saying.  I don't think Rondo's value around the league is all that high right now. I think it's ok.  But I think we value him more.

Teams could even opt for guys like Jarret Jack. I mean who's more affordable/easier to get and represents less risk to ruining your team?

That's why I think Ainge holds onto Rondo for a while.

Ainge doesn't have lots to lose holding onto Rondo. After two years his contract comes off the books, which makes me think his value is just as high next year. Until he does come off the books we have one of the best PGs in the league on a very good contract.  Ainge can afford to wait a while.

The perception about trying to trade Rondo is that getting rid of him will help us tank.  But if I'm Ainge I'm like "Well if he's as bad as everyone makes him out to be we'll be able to tank just fine and I might not have him till December anyway, and if he's as good as I say I can trade him later and get more".

This might take a while

The Celts also have to consider if in a few years Drum is going to want a max contract? Because if so I'm done with the Drummond thing

Not unless I had a logjam at Drummond's position and a need at Rondo's.

I woudl describe having Drummond, Monroe, and Josh Smith as a logjam. Also, with Detroit looking to win now, and Josh Smith largely duplicating Drummond in terms of playing style, I can see how they can be convinced to part with Drummond.

It all depends on the circumstances.

First, I am not sold on Drummond not being a dog.  So, I could see a scenario where Dumars just wants to sell high on Drummond before he is exposed for what he is.

But beyond that, if Detroit were to consider trading Drummond (or Monroe) for Rondo, it wouldn't be because they saw equal value.  It would be because Dumars has been given the directive to win NOW, and Rondo is the most talented player that is a realistic get, who fills a need...and Dumars wants to keep his job.

These type of deals happen all the time in the NBA.  A GM gets desperate, and gives up more than market value in order to pry a player away, because their ownership needs to sell some tickets.

Realistically, I don't see them keeping Monroe, Drummond, and Smith together in the longrun.  Its just not a good fit.  And right now might be the time to sell, before Monroe gets any closer to his payday, or Drummond gets any more exposed.

Flip one of them for one of the most dynamic and popular players in the league, who is friends with your new PF, and who also plays with an edge that Dumars has always been partial to in players.  And try to win now.

I don't think it is likely.  But I think it is a possible scenario.

Agreed. No way. Drummond doesn't come close - not to the leadership, not to the production, not to the intelligence.

Presuming he continues to develop as expected, Drummond will be one of those few players worth more than his max contract allows.

Personally, Drummond has some holes in his game that concern me. I might lean slightly toward Monroe.

But Rondo for either of them is a conversation I would listen carefully to, as I am not at all convinced that this thing can be put back together in two years after being leveled, as Bulpett suggests.

Given Rondos injury and Drummonds age/potential, no I probably wouldn't.

I think it is very hard to gauge Rondos value especially when you consider what the Lakers gave the Suns for the corpse of Steve Nash.  Nash was at least 5 years past his prime while Rondo should be entering his prime. Provided Rondo is healthy his value should exceed what the Suns got for Nash by quite a bit IMHO.

Make it Monroe and Knight for Rondo and filler and I'd talk. I know Drummond has 'potential', but that's potential to be great or terrible. Monroe, otoh, has already shown a pretty high floor.

Depends on the rest of my team. If I'm looking to make noise in the playoffs, and I feel like I can go to war with Greg Monroe and Josh Smith in my front court, I might.

If I think my team is a little too thin to really do anything, I don't trade a 23 year old big man with absurd upside for a 28 year old in his prime/recovering from an ACL injury.

The problem is, having Monroe, Olynyk, and Sullinger creates a large amount of redundancy on the roster (and not in a good way). Defensively, they're all pretty much the same guy: "earth-bound" bigs that can't challenge shots well.
