Fab Melo is a Bust. I am calling it right now.

I have been hopeful that he would turn into a solid defensive presence out there and be a part of the future at the center spot. I liked the pick when it was made. I thought sending him to the D league was a great idea and that he would come back a better player that could contribute at least off the bench this season. After watching him play in these summer league games I don't think it's happening. He won't be in the league in a few years unless it is WAY deep on the bench for some scrub team.

He is so terribly soft attacking the basket on offense. He is a BIG man and if he is underneath the rim should be able to easily go up and throw it down or at least draw major contact to get to the line. Instead he shies away from his defender and makes a simple shot hard. He has NO lift and is getting blocked by mediocre defenders. His post moves are awkward. He doesn't handle the ball well.

His defense is at best mediocre to poor. The guy gets the occasional blocked shot due to his size, but I think it's likely that it is sheer luck versus skill.

He can't rebound to save his life. Much of it is due to his soft play out there.

So here is what we have. A "defensive" project who can't defend, can't rebound. Has almost NO upside on the offensive end and plays down low like he is the size of a 2 guard. Before the rest of the league figures it out let's make sure we package him in a deal and get him out of town. He's done.

I don't have a problem that he drafted him. Almost every pick you could go back and find someone drafted behind the player that you'd prefer to have. It is about recognizing the guy has no upside and sending him packing. Move along... Nothing to see here.

I only saw little bits of summer league but I was very disappointed in the parts that I did see of Fab Melo. Looked unable to make multiple efforts on same possession.

I was hoping Fab would improve for this  upcoming season.  Such a huge hole in center just waiting for someone to play well.  But I have almost given up on him as well. 

The only reason I haven't given up all the way, is that the tempo, and team mates in summer league aren't always the best for developing a big.  I guess I would like to see him on our roster and get 10 min a game the first couple months, and if nothing starts getting better at that point.  Eh he had his shot...
