Stipulating that of course you want to give Sullinger and Olynyk a lot of minutes, that doesn't mean they will soak up 100% of the minutes at power forward.  There should be a non-zero number of minutes where the Celtics will have to play either Bass or Humphries, assuming both are still on the roster during the season.

I'd prefer to play Bass because Humphries' trade value is more dependent on him being an expiring contract than as player teams want.  Additionally, I can see scenarios where Bass is on the team beyond next season (for example, if one young PF is used as trade fodder to acquire a top center, Bass as a veteran backup would make sense).

Humphries needs to be DNP-CD like he was in brooklyn.

I see Olynyk putting in most of his minutes at center, so Bass or Humphries will probably split time until Sully is fully healthy.  I think you have to give the Hump more run to start the season because he's obviously a more attractive trade asset.  If the dude could start the season averaging a double-double like he did a couple years ago, there's a decent chance some team will offer up a future 1st for him and his expiring deal.  I don't think there's any way Bass could ever bring that back in a trade.

Humphries. Right now I think he should start at center unless this Faverani chap can beat him to those minutes. If Faverani can, I am happy to minimize Humphries' minutes.

Bass is the big man I am least interested in on the Celtics roster heading into next season. We're stuck with him for another 12 months.

Depends entirely on which team each player is playing for.

If Humphries had a reasonable contract, I would agree with you. An expiring and a first would be attainable. But ... it is just so hard to match that $12 million salary in a trade for a team looking to acquire a role player.

You have to couple 3-4 role players and Boston would need all of them on expiring deals and that team would need to replace some of them and then a first rounder on top of that. Too many moving parts needed to come together. I am not optimistic.

So, I would be surprised if we get anything for Humphries.

Still, I would play Humphries because I think the team needs his rebounding + I think he might be the best defensive option at the center position currently on the roster.

If we want to lose (tank): play Olynyk and Bass or Bass and Sully together.

If you want a better chance at competing, I think these combos work better:

Humphries/Olynyk
Humphries/Bass
Sullinger/Olynyk
Sully/Humphries

I understand all the Kardashian hate here, but he can 'bound.

Humphries is a nice little reclamation project. He's grossly overpaid on his current contract, but he's better than what his performance from last year indicates. I'd go with a starting front court of Humphries and Olynyk on opening day.

I'd much prefer 10/10 with a block and a half.

Humphries needs to be DNP-CD like he was in brooklyn.

I've got a season ticket share to the Nets, and have to agree with that. Even when he's playing well, he'll hurt a team's offense - he's a ball stopper in love with the long two, the worst shot in basketball, despite shooting 35-36% away from the rim. And he doesn't do enough defensively, outside of rebounding, to make up for his shot selection, lack of ball movement and bobbled passes. He doesn't protect the rim and isn't quick enough to stay in front of quicker forwards on the perimeter.

If Coach Stevens can get him working primarily as a rebounder and roll man, maybe we'd have a solid rotational player, but he's not a legit NBA starter.
