Wow... I'm as big a fan of the Celts as there is, but, I'm done with Rondo.

We cannot rebuild around and him win a title, because he's becoming more injury prone, has been in decline since 2008-2010, and will start to physically decline.  We can't even win with him as our 3rd option, unless we get a prime KG and James for #1 and #2.

His on ball defense was awful last year.  On offense he gets a lot of assists because he holds the ball a lot.  Did any of you notice the Celts played much better when Barbosa took over?  Rondo can't shoot outside of 12', his unrebounded misses are turnovers.  He doesn't drive as much anymore because he gets pounded - too bad that's a plus.

The rebounding argument doesn't yield much, he's only about 1.5 rebounds/36 above the average guard, and one way he gets O glass is that he doesn't go back on D like he is supposed to but fights for rebounds.  Laudable when he gets them and scores, not so much when the other team gets an easy bucket because he didn't get back.

If you factor everything the past 3 seasons on average, he's been outside of the top 10 PG's league wide.

He's not elite, we need to deal him and move forward.
Ridiculous. How would you like me to destroy your argument? Line by line or just general post of why you're wrong?

It's weird so many teams want Rondo yet the Boston media wants to trade him! Rondo is our future as long as he comes back from injury up to par. The Stevens/Rondo chemistry will be impressive.

I'll leave the love fest as requested.  From 2008-2010 he looked like he was perhaps headed to the HOF.  But he hasn't grown up, and his 15 game vacation after the Perk deal sealed it for me.  Not a leader.  Not a guy you can count on not the get suspended or have DA and Doc both call him uncoachable.  You guys are in lala-land - with respect.

Yup.

The Rondo hate is largely driven by the media.  Unfortunately, a lot of Celtics fans bought their vindictive drivel.

I think it's interesting that Rondo is disliked by much of Boston media/fans.

Players who hustle, come up big when it matters, and are smart (like Rondo) are usually beloved in Boston sports folklore.

I also think the 'Rondo is a PITA' is overblown.  So are Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

They did the same to Paul Pierce. So I'm not surprised. That's just the way they are. If Rondo was to win another ring they'd have a complete LOVE FEST.

I agree with the OP. Dude, you created an account on here just so you could come to the "Some Rondo Love" thread and bash Rondo (in a pretty ridiculous way)?

Ainge thought Brad Stevens is the best coach in America and Brad Stevens loves Rondo, wonder how that makes Rondo bashers feel?

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
More Rondo Love: A post that I made earlier in the season, before he was injured.

http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=61053.msg1353210#msg1353210

Quote
From 16 feet to the 3 point line, he's shot .556% out of 35/63 shots.

In contrast, Kevin Durant has taken 65 shots from that area and hit .385% of them. Chris Paul has taken 69 shots and hit .449% of them. Paul Pierce has taken 68 shots and hit .412% of them. Steph Curry has taken 118 shots and made .449% of them.

Last year, Dirk made .516% of his shots 16 feet-3 point land.

If you actually watch the games, you can see that Rondo is stroking. His jumpers are starting to become more and more contested, and he's been making them. He's hit many difficult mid range shots this season, and has drastically improved. Last year, he was .413% from the same area.

The percentage right now as a whole for the 2012-2013 season is 50.8%, 67/132, which is still pretty dang good.

I've been making the "Rondo is an acceptable jump shooter" argument for years now. He is actually elite in certain areas, such as:

There is no question if you look at the stats, but all the haters just ignore them.
