The second year is a team option and the contract could get bigger based on incentives.

Cleveland is getting impatient though and has begun negotiating with other free agents, which if they signed would preclude them from signing Bynum.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Well, if they have an excess of 12 mil and don't want to spend of mediocre FA, that makes sense. Other than that, it's a stupid move not worth the risk.
This Bynum is a joke. Come on look at his face and his attitude on last phil Jackson game. Unforgivable...

How is a one-year, incentive-laden contract with a second year team option not worth the risk?  When healthy, Bynum is in the same class as D12 and Marc Gasol.

That sounds like a pretty ideal contract from the Cavs perspective.  I definitely understand not liking Bynum's attitude, and the Cavs could use some vets in that locker room to mitigate that.  I just think the talent is worth whatever small gamble there is for one year.

You kind of have to think that, don't you?

Well, on a personal level I've wanted to see a Bynum / Irving combo for awhile now.  If Bynum is healthy and fully motivated, he's a game changer, and of course Irving already is.

Now I'm intrigued to see how much money Marc Cuban throws at him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have offered free-agent center Andrew Bynum a two-year contract, worth an incentive-laden $12 million annually, sources close to the process told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

Bynum has not canceled scheduled recruiting visits this week with the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, despite the offer, which he received Monday.

You expect Bynum to actually show up and cheer his team on when he's "rehabbing"? ;)

Cavs: "Okay, here is the offer.  2 years, 24 million and a new horrific haircut to sit on the bench with each game."

If the Cavs want to make the playoffs this season, I think using that money on Elton Brand and AK47 makes more sense.

Getting Bynum for one year at $12m, with the second year under your control, is a team friendly deal if you've got cap room.

Big win for the Cavs if he signs this deal.  Yes, they're taking a chance that he will oden the upcoming season, but it's worth the risk.

A two year guarantee becomes a lot riskier,  but Mark Cuban isn't afraid to take risks. I think that Dallas gives him that same deal, with the second year at Bynum's option.

Foolish. This is why Cleveland is Cleveland.
