Boston Sends: Kris Humphries, Marshaun Brooks, BKN 1st rounder

Phillidelphia Sends: S&T Andrew Bynum ($24mill/2years/TO 2nd year), (Bynum's top offer as of now)

Philli has seemed out of any interest with Bynum since the start. So they pick up an expiring and get a young guard and a 1st round pick. Don't see them doing anything with their cap anyways, likely sitting still until 2014 while they rack up losses and position for the draft.

Boston, like all teams takes a chance. Playing the middle, a probable low playoff team when fully healthy, but not good enough to truly compete. If Bynum plays up to his old self, Boston has a very nice 5 of Rondo/Bradley/Green/Sullinger/Bynum. If he sits all year, well nothing really changes and Boston adds losses.

Bynum would of course have to choose Boston over Cleveland.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

God no.

This is a rebuilding team trying to clear bad contacts.  Taking on $12/year im the prime of our rebuilding time for a guy who may never play?  Terrible.

This is almost as bad as the Knicks deal for Amare...seemed like a good idea at the time. Now, not so much.

Actually paying 12 million to a guy who will never play is alot of what rebuilding is about in the NBA

I'd do it.

Bynum's knees are a total crapshoot, but if its a situation where we have the opportunity to cut him after this year if it doesn't work out with no ill effects I'd make the trade.

We aren't competing this year anyway. We can let/make Bynum and Rondo take all the time they need getting back into shape to play. We still rack up a ton of losses and at some point we run out our next big 3 of Rondo, Green, Bynum.

Add in Sullinger, Bradley, Olynyk and our 2014 lottery pick and that's a solid young team.

If I were making the trade I'd want it to be Crawford instead of Brooks and I'd only give up the 2014 Nets pick.

At the end of the day though a late first and a chucker like Brooks or Crawford is a small price to pay for chance to get a guy like Bynum. If it doesn't work out we don't lose all that much and if it does we get a top 5 center.

I would do it but we haven't even met with Bynum nor are we scheduled to. Doesnt look like Bynum wants to come to Boston, go figure. Like who doesnt want to come to Boston ::)

The primary benefit I can think of for signing Bynum is that he'd make Rondo seem like a perfect role model of coachability and maturity by comparison.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

If we could somehow pull it off with not trading a draft pick I would do it.  I am seriously not a Bynum fan, but if he can be had for some of our other contracts that we don't want it might be worth it for a year.

If only from the trade asset perspective, if he could rehab the knee enough where he could play some at the end of this year and show he could at least play again he might help us land a bigger fish.

Lots of people say his knee problems are long term and never getting better.  Is that the case?

Lol.  Now that I think about it maybe AB's bad attitude isn't worth the trouble when we are rebuilding.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I don't know about sending any first rounders - I guess if we have to, we can send the Brooklyn 2014 one. Any additional players should just be filler, unless Philly wants a guy like Courtney Lee or Bass.

We could go even higher - say to 14 million on this year and a similar team option for next year. Kris Humphries isn't a guy that is in our future, at all - Andrew Bynum could be.

Not a bad idea, as it doesn't eat up cap space for the future [unless we want it to] and we have a potential superstar center...if healthy and motivated.

Is a NJ #1 worth taking on Humphries' salary for a year?  My guess is that the Sixers could just buy a late first next year.

One benefit of Bynum signing with Boston.  When he's injured and out bowling, those candlepin balls are a lot lighter than ten pin, and a lot easier on the knees.

Agreed.  No incentive for Philly to take on $12M of Kris Humphries.  Brooks and the late 1st isn't worth that.

From Boston's perspective, why not?  We'd be bad next year anyways, so if he isn't healthy (which many expect), then no big deal.  No difference to me in wasting money on Bynum vs. wasting money on Humphries/Brooks.  If he is healthy, then that actually makes this celtics team really interesting.  Not only that, but if he's healthy, then we get the option of keeping him another season.

Personally, I'm having issues with seeing Humphries in a celtics jersey next season, so I would be interested in a lot of ideas that have him leaving.
