As I was thinking about the Pistons today I thought the J.smith signing was weird with Drummond and Monroe in place.
Then I thought wasn't Det. one of the 1st teams to call Danny about Rondo, and also the 1st to be on the phone with Smith.

Could there be something in the works sending Knight and either Drummond or Monroe for Rondo an Extras ?

This is the only "trading Rondo" scenario that I've heard that might make sense. I doubt it would include Drummond cause of his potential and rookie contract. Monroe will be in last season of his rookie deal. But how good is Knight? Looks like he can score, but can he be a distributor as well? And including draft picks from Det. should be part of deal.

I don't know about Rondo, but I feel that Detroit is definitely shopping Drummond for a star guard or a wing player.  Drummond is a great athlete and a great defensive player, but he doesn't give a lot of offense and a big liability at the free throw line.

I thought it was interesting that they sat him against the summer league Celtics, who are a big physical defensive team.  They probably didn't want to hurt his trade value (or maybe just his confidence going into the season) by risking a poor showing.

I definitely was under the impression that Drummond was untouchable for Det, while Monroe may be a little more dispensable with JSmith on board. I certainly don't want to trade Rondo, but would be much happier with Drummond than Monroe in a trade.

They did sit Drummond today so.......:p

Although the way KO was passing to Melo makes me want a really good C to play with him who could finish at the rim.

Not sure I want that at the expense of Rondo though.

Isn't Rondo the guy that Ainge said would be no part of a trade for KG back years ago? And, that was before he ever played a pro game. Now that we have seen him average triple doubles for a playoff series, stick it to the Heat, and be an excellent distributor are we really going to trade him for unproven players and even more unproven picks?

Drummond is not unproven.  He played last year.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/drumman01.html

7.9 PPG 7.6 RPG as a rookie  on .60% FG in 20 MPG.  He is 6-10 and 270 lbs.    He is pretty athletic for a 6-10 guy.

Raw potential is what he is, not as proven as Rondo but not totally unproven.  He is a physical freak who blew away Dwight Howard's combine numbers.

I know people around here love Drummond, but in my opinion Monroe is so much better that it's not even close.

Drummond is a big kid.  He's really nice, very athletic and he'll get a lot of rebounds, blocks and steals.  He's very young, so people can imagine him developing in all kinds of ways, so his value is very high right now.  If he continues to show no development in the offensive end he will just become a liability.

Monroe is such a smart player.  He is great offensively in the post.  He is a tremendous passer.  He gets steals and blocks.  He can rebound.  He can develop an offensive game like Tim Duncan.  He is nowhere near the physical specimen Drummond is, but I think he will be by far the better player over the course of their careers.

If you're giving me Knight, Drummond and a '14 pick, even I am probably not saying no to that for Rondo.

While I prefer to remain competitive, if the Celts could dump either Lee or Bass with Rondo and get either Drummond or Monroe along with a couple expirings (Stuck/Charlie V.) then I say do it.

Monroe is already a beast and Drummond is going to become one. If you could then go out and get another decent PG, hell you might even be a good team, this year!

The Pistons brought in Sheed to teach Drummond how to play in the post.

It's also been expected that Drummond will play limited minutes in summer league because he will be participating in USA Basketball's Mini-camp.  He might not have played because he lobbied for extra minutes in their first game.

Don't expect DA too make any trades until the trade deadline looms. With all the contracts he's acquired he will maximize their potential throughout the season, load up on strictly expiring contracts and draft picks. The core i see remaining is Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sully and Olynyk
