"The Boston Celtics have hired Drew Cannon to join Brad Stevens' coaching staff.

Cannon was previously Butler's analytics guru and is just 23 years old.

Cannon would prepare a report for Stevens following every Butler game that would take him 10 to 12 hours to prepare in order to find advantages in terms of lineup patterns."

Awesome job for a guy that age - props.

Good luck to him trying to produce identical reports for an 82 game season, filled with back to backs and little practice time.

I like Stevens and am fine with cannon, but something has to change from butler to the nba in terms of reports. I wonder how they will mange stats this year?

I hope they give him 1 or 2 more guys to help out Cannon, cuz analyzing 82 games + playoffs is very hard and stressful...

With a multi-million dollar budget.

The Celtics right now spend six figures per year on SportsVU tracking software.  They might be like the Mavs and develop their own.

Maybe they can bring in a bunch of nerd interns from MIT and Harvard to do the grunt work.

It's probably easier to do in the pros because there's more data available.

good points. maybe some interns as well. clearly the celtics are trying to be cutting edge in the nba world, so they will probably follow your advice and hire a few more folks to help out.

i am interested in seeing how this all works out.

Just to be clear on who reported the news, it was Baxter Holmes from the Globe not RealGM.

Does realgm report any news? All I've ever seen from them is a summary of articles that they see on the web.
