You are right.

Grabbing Varejao would only further the process of developing our own big men. Lets stick with Sully, KO, Fab and Bass for now. If we can trade Wallace id like to see it happen with Detroit who has an obvious need at SF, plus id much rather have Monroe or Drummond IF we ever grabbed another big man. Plus the chance of gathering expiring contracts from ie. Stuckey and Villanueva

1. Gerald Wallace isn't a need, and I still don't see where you get the notion that he is needed basketball-wise in Cleveland.

2. Your insistence is that Gerald Wallace's best assets are being a leader and an example. Well, they just signed Jarrett Jack. He's quite the leader and a lot better than Wallace. As for inspiration, the team can get more of that from Varejao's hustle than Wallace's (and from Kyrie). 

3. You keep saying that Gee and Miles are inconsistent (beyond belief), but I'm just going to keep stressing the point that Wallace is so much more inconsistent than either of them. It's a very moot point for a favoring Wallace perspective. They need a SF, yes, but in quality. Someone like Rudy Gay - actual talent, someone actually better than what they already have.


It isn't happening because Varejao is more talented and the Cavs have little to no need of Wallace.

Gerald Wallace is a need because he fills their weakest position and offers leadership. I disagree that they should stop searching for veterans simply because they have Jack now.

However, all the other points you've made are certainly valid and I've already discussed many of them being reasons why this trade is a stretch for Boston because they'd clearly be getting the better end of the deal.

The only reason I floated this idea was for the slight chance that Gilbert is truly desperate in carrying out his goals of making the playoffs now. Varejao is certainly the more valuable player at this point, but he's made of even more fragile glass than Wallace is and I just don't see him being a reliable component on a team looking to get into the playoffs.

Could they get a better return value for Varejao? In a league where Bynum is probably still going to get eight digits this offseason, I don't doubt it. BUT, considering some other putrid contracts that were moved around this offseason, it's worth a shot bringing this trade idea up. I mean, this is Cleveland after all.
