IMO lineup

Starting - Sully - Olynyk - Green - AB - Rondo
Bench - Humprhies - Bass - Wallace - Brooks- Lee - Pressey
Extras - Randolph - Crawford - ?

So can this team make the playoffs?? As unreasonable it sounds, i feel Olynyk is the xfactor.  If he starts or not and at worse gives the team 12-14 points a game on a consistent basis, i feel we have a shot to nail 7-8 spot.

I think our defense will be excellent. We have the pieces to be a very good team defending team, with Bradley, Rondo, Green and Sully and Olynyk will be better than expected.

The bench looks pretty solid. Better than last years version. Plus i predict Pressey will make the team and finally give us that 2nd pg we haven't had in a very long time.

But again , unless we can get consistent production from a third player, this will be a very long season.

lol. No.

expand. I'm guessing no bc you don't see consistent production from AB/Sully/Olynyk?

no because everyone except our starting 4 is a joke, and 2 of our starting 4 are recovering from surgery

Keep in mind that it's the east, 35 wins could get you into the playoffs. I could see this team pulling that off.

a joke eh??

They will be fully healthy when they comeback.  Pierce avg 18 and KG 15 last year.  If we can get some consistency from two to three guys we have a chance to make it in. Example Sully scores 10 , Olynyk 12, Bench can give us 20 pts

Green is a better defender than Pierce and his offense really came on late in the year.

I think the wildcards are what Ainge does with Humphries, if anything.  If he can trade him for a decent contributor, that helps.  The other wildcard is Gerald Wallace.  I, for some odd reason, don't think he is totally washed up.  He really lost his confidence in the regular season, but rebounded a little in the playoffs where he had almost a +13 Efficiency Rating and shot over 46% from the field and almost 38% from three. Gwall used to be by far the Bobcats best player and was really very good both ways.  Never had a great outside shot, but was streaky and smart about when he was hot.  I really liked him.  He fell off a lot in Portland and certainly in Brooklyn.

If Gerald can be a +15 player or better, we will should make the playoffs.

All contingent on RR and Sully playing MOST of the season.

are we to assume that the starting line ups of every other nba team does NOT suffer catastrophic injuries? because without such massive and pandemic-esque injuries this celtics roster is not walking through any playoff doors next year.

look at the question this way. WITH kg and pierce, the celtics were 41-40, barely making the playoffs.

without them, meaning their scoring and defense, i would be surprised if the celtics won 30 games this season. honestly, a 15 to 20 win team is a distinct possibility.

with pierce and KG the celtics offense was a weakness. without them, scoring is going to be a real challenge for the celtics. how many possessions with 6 or less seconds less did kg or pierce manage to create a score? who else can create their own shot on the team now?

how many games did pierce and kg pull out for the celtics by scoring in the closing moments? who does that now for the celtics?

green did well as the #3 option as scorer last year. his scoring may go up this year since no one else can score effectively and consistently for the celtics. he will be the main man for scoring. but when a game is on the line the opposing team will focus on green. heck, on most possession defenses will focus on green.

will green be able to score as effectively then? we will find out. but even if green can score, who else will do this night in and night out without kg or pierce to help out? and don't forget, passing and assists have not really been part of green's game. i dont expect him to create a lot of opportunities for others when his shot is not falling.

and the defense. geez, stevens is going to implement some complex defensive schemes. it will take 1/2 season or more for the team to really know them well. until then other teams will take advantage of late switches and bad decision by the celtics. plus lots of new teammates who dont know one another yet does not bode well for the team.

with kg last year, when he sat on the bench everyone saw the celtics defense became worse. now there is NO kg at all. i dont think celtics defense will win a great number of games.

i believe that this team will be ugly next year. but that is ok.

i hope stevens plays the kids each night every night. at least then losing may show us which young players are keepers and which ones are not. at least the celtics get something positive from the train wreck season that is coming.

contrariwise, if all stevens does is play wallace and humphries, the celtics will still lose, but the youngsters won't learn as quickly.

ever the optimist, i predict that the celtics will be beaten like gongs more often than not. and i can live with that since it is a rebuilding year. this coming season should be about building the future, not winning today.

so, did i mention that i harbor doubts about the celtics' playoff chances?  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

it just hit me that jeff green is our number one scoring option, and sullinger is our 2nd.

I think Sully might be a while coming back and working his way into game shape...

Rondo/Bradley/Green/Wallace/Hump would be my starting 5, and they make the playoffs easily at a respectable 45-37.

Off the bench:  Olynyk, Sully, MBrooks, Bass, & Lee.

Rondo could push that team to a 6th seed with a light tailwind.

Sully is still non-contact only, and needs to condition himself. he said he gained weight and hasnt been able to run during recovery

that is my concern because Rondo is just too good to prevent the Celtics from tanking imo.

I'm not saying we will be a top 4 seed, but with a lineup of

Rondo
Bradley/Lee
Green
Wallace
Sully/Humphries

I do not think anywhere between 6-8 seed is out of the question.

The Celtics were 41-40 with KG and Pierce and basically every team in the league improved this off season.  I really don't get the posters on this site sometimes.  We won't win 30 games

Having KG on your team is more than just "15 points".  C'mon

I don't see it.

Lack of size.

Lack of scoring.

Best player is a question mark until he proves he is back.
