Rondo had great veterans players that made him an AllStar..lets see how he does now..dont get me wrong, i think he is good but his numbers will go down w/o the great supporting cast
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark

I'm pretty tired of hearing that Detroit would say no. Boston is the one with the 4-time all-star, 2-time league assist leader, 2-time all-NBA 1st team defense, championship caliber point guard. Drummond put up 9 double-doubles last season...that is nice for a rookie big man. Rondo averages 20/season and 8/playoff.

I know I just dumped the pee out of my boot after reading your tired hearing Detriot would say "no".  EKK, I am scared.   BTW Detroit would say "NO!"   They've  said he is not on the block and no to any deal with him and denied interest in Rondo.

I love RR but I would have to think hard even if they offered Monroe and Knight for Rondo.  Monroe is only 23.  Knight is 23.  Rondo is 27.

Well, you need to get used to Detroit saying no to that deal, because it is just incredibly unbalanced.

I agree the OP trade is unbalanced but I don't think that Rondo for Drummond is balanced our way. The point I was making is that Drummond is a bunch of potential with some notable flaws. Rondo is a proven NBA star with (hilariously) similar flaws. The difference there isn't small.

The problem I had was that Detroit fans (and even some Boston fans) were hyping a guy who's done next to nothing in the NBA and diminishing a guy who, as I put it earlier, is very accomplished. That is all I was calling attention to.

There is more to it than just talent. You're ignoring the fit of the players involved.

Rondo is obviously more accomplished and unbelievably talented, but his style of play doesn't mesh well enough with their current roster for them to be giving up the amount of talent you seem to be expecting.

If the Pistons picked up Rondo their starting lineup would have no real shooters. Rondo's midrange game has improved, but he still isn't a "shooter", neither is Josh Smith or either of Monroe/Drummond. KCP should help, but he is an unknown/proven commodity. They're all great pieces, but I don't know if they are pieces that fit together.

As good as Rondo is, you don't sell the farm for a guy who, while talented, might not fit into your system. Otherwise they'll look like the Lakers from last year. Lots of talent, but just can't put it together.

Of course they made a call just to test the waters, but they shouldn't and probably won't be willing to go all in for Rondo.

If I were them my max offer would be Monroe, Knight and one of their expiring deals and I'd try to avoid taking back Wallace's deal as much as possible. Anything beyond that and it's just too much.

Just to further drive on this point, I don't buy that Drummond is untouchable.

NO ONE is untouchable.

If Detroit is in win-now mode (which they appear to be with the Josh Smith contract) then why wouldn't they want to deal for a star player like Rondo?

And with Drummond, regardless of his potential, he is still a work in progress. If Detroit could deal a work in progress to assemble a star trio in Rondo/Smith/Monroe, why wouldn't they do it?

I think this makes alot of sense for both teams. As for the Celts, they get a potential future star and building block for our rebuild in Andre Drummond.

Remember in 2 years when Rondo's contract expires, will the Celts resign him and wouldn't Rondo rather be playing for a contending team with his buddy Smith?

The only wrinkle in all this is whether Detroit would hesitate because of that [dang] ACL injury.

Andre Drummond is more untouchable than Tim Duncan. There is absolutely NO way Detroit trades what some people call a perennial All-Star who's gonna dominate the league for the next decade. Dwight Howard without the immaturity.
Jeff Green - Top 5 SF

If we deal Rondo, shouldn't we be dealing Green too? Rondo + Green is a much more attractive offer for Drummond than Rondo + Wallace.

I would believe that if it weren't the same group that drafted Darko instead of Melo and signed Charlie V and Ben Gordon to large contracts

This I would definitely agree with. If Detroit does deal Drummond, there is no way they would take on a bad contract like Wallace or Lee.
