I'd rather not trade Rondo at all but if we were going to I think I'd rather have Monroe. I may be wrong and Drummond has the potential to be the better player down the line but Monroe is a sure thing and we can't really afford to mess up a Rondo trade as he's our best trade chip by far.
Drummond averaged like 14 points, 14 boards, 3 blocks and 2 steals per 36 minutes as a 19 year old rookie.  Considering our goals as a team (3-5 year rebuild... tanking next season), it's preferable to bring in Drummond instead of Monroe.  Drummond can have the season to grow (and we can lose games in the process)... meanwhile, Monroe would help us win too much.

I think Drummond's ceiling is much higher than Monroe anyways.

Just interested to see what everyone's value for rondo is compared to Drummond?

One is a top tier PG who is already an all star with a championship. The other has unbelievable potential to be a defensive stud in the future.

Granted rondo is coming off of an ACL tear... But I honestly don't think it is not something to worry about with so many players having tears in the nba and nfl I think his value should not be diminished at all.

Anyways I think you will see a Monroe package if Detroit was to make an offer, he is not very good defensively  and has basically shown what he is in the league the past few years as a scoring center who doesn't  block shots well. I much rather have Drummond but Monroe is up for a big pay day after next season when he is due for an extension off his rookie deal. Much cheaper to keep Drummond and slide Smith to the PF spot where he is much more effective.

Anyways I think I want more for Rondo then just one of these bigs.. I want to dump salary (lee or bass) as well.

Detroit says no -- I'm not sure they would've even given up A.Drummond for D.Howard. Nevermind Rondo.

I think Boston will have to wait 9-12 months before revisiting this trade idea. Detroit are too high on A.Drummond as an individual (MVP caliber prospect) to give up on him + probably even too high on what G.Monroe and A.Drummond might be able to accomplish together as a dominant big man duo to part with G.Monroe either.

After next season, after that starting lineup's horrific spacing and inability to function together is made abundantly apparent to their front office, then, and not before then, do I think Detroit will be ready to part with one of them for Rondo.

There was a lively debate on this with some Piston fans on another thread earlier in the week.  They greatly undervalued Rondo, but were clear that Drummond was the guy they wanted to keep.  They wanted no part of Wallace's terrible contract.  It was clear the fan base wanted to just dump the expiring contracts and give us Brandon Knight for Rondo.  Celtic fans were equally adamant that there is no deal for Rondo without Monroe or Drummond on the table with Knight.  My guess is to get one of their bigs and Knight, we have to offer Rondo plus draft picks.

For what it is worth, Knight, Drummond, Monroe and Caldwell-Pope are all lottery picks.  It takes a long time to build a really good team.  Despite that talent, Calderon bolted for Dallas.  They got Josh Smith because he had nowhere else to go once Atlanta signed Milsap.  Atlanta was in a better financial place to just let him go.  Most of his suitors got their guy, so the Pistons were left.

Posted this in the other thread.

I think dumars is facing a make or break year and his job is on the line. He lost Calderon and might get desperate enough to trade what Ainge is looking for to move rondo.

I think Ainge gas been posturing and he intends to move rondo to solidify the tanking.

This is the deal I think Ainge does.

Villanueva expiring, stucky expiring, Monroe/Drummond, knight and a pick
For
Rondo, Courtney lee, and Wallace.

I can see Ainge relenting on knight.

Makes sense.  If I were the Pistons, I wouldn't get rid of Drummond for Rondo either.

So the answer to this thread:

Pistons say no.

Maybe if we included extra assets... the signing of Josh Smith makes me think Pistons are looking to compete this year.  Trading for Rondo would possibly make them a low-level playoff team.

I think rondo will be a piston by training camp. Monroe or Drummond will be wearing Celtic colors next season IMO.

I'd greatly prefer Drummond.  If we somehow got Drummond for Rondo, I'd be ecstatic.

Someone save that quote for a few years from now when Rondo proves me wrong, comes back from ACL injury, makes an improbable leap into Superstardom... and Drummond fizzles out into a headcase underachieving Eddy Curry-esque journey man.

i would deal Rondo for Drummond. whether we end up keeping Wallace's bad contract is irrelevant for me If we lock up Drummond, tbh.

The media (bloggers) seems to think Rondo is worthless enough that the PIstons can get him without giving up Drummond OR Monroe

If the Detroit Pistons land Rajon Rondo, he would be playing alongside Josh Smith, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. That's a good team.

Rondo could be a trade target of joe Dumars with josh smith in fold. Wouldn’t have to deal Drummond or Monroe to get him either.

Alex Kennedy also linked to an article that claims the Celtics need to trade Rondo now... mainly due to the fact that he's going to be a free agent in a couple years: http://www.hoopsworld.com/the-time-to-trade-rajon-rondo-is-now

No Drummond, no deal imo. I wouldn't trade Rondo for Monroe, never mind a package without either of the two big men.

If they want Rondo Ainge would hold out for Drummond. Expirings and whatever else wouldn't matter that much.

I agree.  Rondo for Monroe doesn't really help our tanking chances.  I'd rather just hang onto Rondo and let him take half the season off recovering from injury.
