I think dumars is facing a make or break year and his job is on the line. He lost Calderon and might get desperate enough to trade what Ainge is looking for to move rondo.

I think Ainge has been posturing and he intends to move rondo to solidify the tanking.

This is the deal I think Ainge does.

Villanueva expiring, stucky expiring, Monroe/Drummond, knight and a pick
For
Rondo, Courtney lee, and Wallace.

I can see him relenting on knight tho.

I don't think Ainge is posturing, but is quite serious that he isn't looking to move Rondo yet willing to take calls.  However, I think the Pistons are one of the few teams that may make an offer that Ainge would accept.

They would probably keep Monroe since he is more of the known commodity and with Smith/Rondo the Pistons would be looking to win now.

Wow. I thought this wouldn't happen. Apparently I can add Smith to the list of players for whom "it's all about the benjamins."

No way Detroit is a title contender anytime soon unless they also add an elite PG and a big-time scorer.

I don't know. I think we could be seeing a bunch of "trade for Josh Smith" threads around mid-season when Detroit is struggling to fit their three big men on the floor together.

"Get him cheap" "his value is low" "we won't have to give up much"

He wasn't on your list already?  Josh Smith wanted to get paid and for people to stop complaining about his shot selection.

Some Detroit fans seem to think this means they're going to make another run at Toronto for Rudy Gay using Monroe.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

That would be pretty darn sweet.

SF - Rudy Gay
PF - Josh Smith
C  - Andre Drummond

Oh my goodness, all that athleticism! Wow!

That team is going to have serious spacing issues.
If Detroit is still interested in the services of Rondo, I'd think Caldwell-Pope and Knight would be nice here. Take on Charlie V's deal, send out Lee in the deal.

If they are willing to deal one of their bigs, even better. Going forward, we're going to need someone who can score, and I've seen that in Caldwell-Pope's game.

You just can't do a deal with them for Rondo unless you get a one of those bigs in return.

I think Monroe (PF) and Valanciunas (C) has a better chance of working out than Monroe and Drummond too.

Valanciunas has shown more ability away from the basket. With some more work, it looks like he might have a really nice midrange game to help space the floor for Monroe to work over the smaller PF defender in the low post.

Knight

Singler
Smith
Monroe

Bynum and Drummond coming off the bench again for that ludicrous PR offence

Detroit should probably deal Drummond or Monroe now.

I don't like a Drummond/Monroe/Smith front court.  Zero spacing.

Terrible spacing. They need to trade either Monroe or Drummond to make the most of Smith's abilities. Putting him at SF is a recipe for disaster.
