I think Granger is the man Danny needs to go after this year.  Indiana just signed West to a big deal, & George & Stephenson will both want paydays in their future deals.  The time is now to pounce on an all star player like Granger.

We dump Bass & add a player we actually might look to keep in the future to pair with Rondo.  You bring more flexibility to the team as well with both Green & Granger capable of playing the 4 spot.

Yes, 14 M is a lot to swallow, but you maintain flexibility with both Humphries and Granger deals expiring.

Basically, it's a win win situation for us.  Next year, we either sign Granger up again or let him expire.  If he'll help us get #18, resign him.  If not, let him walk and use the financial flexibility elsewhere.  Basically, you're giving up a pick + a trade exception to get rid of Bass' deal if Granger walks.

Indiana would clear space moving forward & they fill in depth with Bass possibly taking the spot of restricted free agent Tyler Hansbrough.

You cannot combine trade exceptions with players.  They can only be used to take on an entire player's contract.

Also, Indiana has signed Chris Copeland to replace Psycho T.  Bass is a bit redundant with David West, and costs more than Hansbrough would have, so I don't think it makes much sense for them at all.  Sure they clear a little of Granger's salary this year, but if they're going to take on a long-term deal in place of that expiring contract, I think they'd rather it be in a backcourt scorer than Brandon Bass.

Along with what others said, why would we need another SF?

1.  You can't combine trade exceptions and players to bring back one big salary;

2.  The Celtics aren't really in a position to take on salary, as they are right up against the luxury tax and want to avoid being a "repeater"; and

3.  Granger doesn't really fit the franchise's goals.  He won't help us contend, but he's too good for us to secure a good draft pick.

I don't understand how Granger would help us both short-term or long-term.

To point number three--He's got a pair of degenerative knees ala Brandon Roy, right?

So he might help us with a pick if we trade him for guys who are actually able to stay on the floor.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
