Why?    Kobe only has one year left on his contract. Just play it out.

That would be PR suicide.  Have you ever talked or read comments from laker fans?  They're insanely defensive of him.

I also can't see Kobe ever agreeing to that.  He's as competitive as they get and getting amnestied would be admitting that he's no longer able to play at that level (whether it's true or not) and as much as I dislike him I think the lakers owe him more than that (if he's unwilling that is) after 17 years.

Why did I think the title read "Should the Lakers Amnesty Kobe"?  Kids and weather are messing up my sleep.  Ignore.

G - S.Nash, A.Brooks, S.Livingston
G - K.Bryant, W.Ellington
F - R.Carney, R.Artest
F - J.Maxiell, I.Johnson, J.Hill
C - P.Gasol, J.O'Neal

That is the type of team I would try to build.

Lakers only have Nash under contract next year.  They are playing this one out and will tank for a high pick in part by keeping Kobe out with his injury as long as possible.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
