Now that Howard is off the table, Wallace might be attractive to win now teams who are under the cap such as Dallas. He was an all-star only a couple of seasons ago, is only signed up for 3 years and 30 years old.

I think that Wallace still has a lot to give a contending team and if BOS gives him the opportunity to show it Ainge could and should get more than a low 2nd rounder at the trade deadline: Better pick(s) and/or other pieces (young players, trade-friendly contracts, etc.)

This is a solid position to take. I think you are right too that that might be his plan with Wallace, but I also think the risk is too high and would do the trade just to move on.

There's a chance Wallace hasn't completely fallen off and maybe he was just misused in Brooklyn, but I can't see him improving enough to ever be worth that contract.

He was absolutely AWFUL last season. He looked absolutely lost offensively and it really looked like his body was run down. They call him Crash for a reason, his style of play is conducive to your body breaking down early.
