Let me start this off by saying im not sure that Rondo has to be traded for this rebuild to be a sucsess. But if its more of a long term plan (top 5 this draft and build from there) and not just a build up assets to trade for an allstar (Love or Aldridge) then Rondo isn't worth wasting on this team.

If Rondo is on board and DA thinks next off-season he can flip assets for Love or Aldridge then by all means Rondo and Green stay with this team and hold out.

If not....

Celtics send Rondo, Lee, and Bass

to

Bobcats for Gordon,Walker, Biyombo, and a protected 2014 1st (they owe their pick but also have rights to Portland's and Detriot's)

This trade makes the Bobcats interesting.

PG Rondo
SG Lee
SF Kidd-Gilchrist
PF Bass
C  Big Al
6th Sessions
7th Zeller
8th Taylor
9th Haywood

The Cs become super young and a bottom feeder

PG Walker
SG AB
SF Green
PF Sully
C  Biyambo
6th Olynyk
7th Wallace
8th Crawford
9th Brooks
10th Melo

add to that my trade idea of Wallace and Brooks + 2nd to the Bucks for Gooden and Udeh and this team is clear of big contracts and full of young assets.

Those assets don't do much for me since it's a protected first.  If we are trading Rondo there I want an unprotected pick even if it's for a different year, and MKG as a starting point in discussions.

I am using the Holiday trade as a precedent figuring  Holiday = a B young asset (Noel) and a top 5 protected pick.
Rondo   = two C+ young assets, salary dump and a protected pick.

I think that's actually a pretty decent return for Rondo given that Kemba Walker is included. He had a good season last year scoring like 18 points a game. His defense is pretty poor and he needs to be able to hit 3's, but I think he has upside after last year.

Byiombo is a 20 year old former top 10 pick. Didn't look great this season, but he has potential and is on a cheap contract.

Gordon is a 13m expiring deal.

And then I'd prefer their 2015 unprotected pick since I don't see us actually getting a 2014 pick (Detroit and Portland's picks probably don't make it out of protection), but they could end up being decent picks.

It's not my favorite Rondo deal, but its a pretty solid return. 2 young talents, cap relief and a future pick checks all my boxes.

I'd rather move Wallace in a Rondo deal than Lee or Bass though. I don't see anyone being interested in Wallace unless he plays up his value during the season, but I think we'd have a better shot at moving Lee/Bass together or on their own to teams looking for solid bench help.

It is a decent return but if were to trade Rondo I would be looking more of a homerun.  I like Walker, but I think he's destined to be a 6th man on a contending team.  With Byiombo I look at him as more of a 3rd or 4th big man on a good team because he is as of now not a very good scorer.  MGK would be of swinging for a home run so I would prefer him.

If we use the Holiday trade as a comparison if you think Rondo and Holiday are for the most part equals, I would say MGK is more in line of Noel as far as potential, and I guess I would be ok with a top 5 protected pick but I would push for an unprotected pick.

exactly.

If Rondo gets traded, it better be for very good prospects and picks.  This deal presents neither.  Any pick coming to us in a Rondo trade must be unprotected.

I completely agree. Like I said it wouldn't be my favorite Rondo trade, but given that we are trading him coming off of an injury it's a decent return (not great, but I'm not going to be standing outside Danny's house with a pitchfork either).

MKG is a better prospect that Byiombo and possibly Walker (although I didn't really see much from MKG this season, I'm a fan though).

As for the picks: Detroit's is only protected 1-8 for 2014 (and I wouldn't mind 9/10 2014 pick to go along with our own) and then only number 1 protected in 2015. Portland's pick is 1-12 protected 14/15 and then unprotected 2016. Detroit's pick is obviously preferred, but the Portland pick could end up being good too if they make a bad trade for Aldridge.

Ideally I'd like better for Rondo, but this wouldn't be a terrible result for us.

My guess:  some form of this deal has been batted about in the last year or so. I think this deal is a little light -- if it included MKG (even instead of that pick) I think it makes some sense for both parties. I think Walker is a little underrated, and Biyombo has unbelievable defensive potential. Basically I don't think the Cs will ever get a young 'star' for Rondo, so if he's going to be sent out, I'd like a package of guys who 1) are young, and 2) fit NBA roles very well.

No thanks.

If you want to tank, just sit Rondo, don't go dumping him for 20 cents on the dollar.
