It's pretty clear what happens from here

2014 draft, doesn't matter where we are picking

We'll probably package it + Gerald Wallace + Bass for a player like Aldridge

I also think we might have about ~18 million in cap space for free agents, not sure about that though

Regardless

If Jeff Green develops into a star

Rondo/Green/Aldridge

regardless, we have money to bring in a top free agent or pick one up from a team looking to restart because we could taken on salary and send them 1st round picks

Maybe Melo or Bosh would be willing to come to Boston, I can't imagine LeBron coming so I'll toss that idea out. There's also a lot of good restricted free agents we could try to lure away

Wow, Wallace + Bass and one first for Aldridge.  If you can sell Portland on this I'm all for it.  Of course Aldridge would have to resign first like Garnett did.  I'm assuming that will cost us 18mil per for 5yrs.

I'm not sure that gets us to a winner though, Portland had a lot of talent around Aldridge and they were never serious contenders.

Melo and Bosh are not walking through that door

but I do think something similar is going to happen. I really like this new coach hiring

I would not want Melo, not a winner or crybaby Bosh walking through that door.

Portland is asking for a legit star and a very good young player for Aldridge.  I don't think Wallace and Bass are going to cut it, even with a 1st thrown in there.

I don't think they could sell it to their fans that they traded an All Star type post player for the corpse of Gerald Wallace and the colossally undersized Brandon Bass and then hope that All Star doesn't turn their new pick into the 20th best player in next year's draft.

Why would portland turn down a top 5-8 pick in the 2014 draft?

but again Aldridge was an example

There will be some player available next year for a lottery pick

Portland turned down David Lee who is an All Star and Brandon Rush who while recovering from an ACL is a borderline starter SG.

We would need more than the top 5 pick to land Aldridge.

I agree with Melo, but Bosh? I mean, I know he looks like a dinosaur and doesn't embrace his masculinity whatsoever, but he's what I'm looking for in a superstar. A guy who isn't afraid of doing the dirty work, and making those extra effort hustle plays. Bosh may have put up a lot of empty statlines this past postseason, but then again, he has Lebron and Wade as teammates. Instead of being a 20+ point scorer, Bosh took charges, dived for loose balls, and played pretty impressive defense down low. I remember there was one loose ball he dived for against the Spurs that was almost Rondo-esque. His mid-range game is very smooth, and he could very easily step into a KG-type role on the offense. I would welcome him to Boston with open arms.

Yes I tend to agree. It will all depend on the opportunities that arise, and it could potentially start happening very quickly this weekend after decision 2.0.

Surprises are good, but I dont see us trading for a true star player without giving up major pieces (Sully, Bradley, Green, etc) plus picks we need to rebuild. Maybe some great veteran presence, but nothing spectacular like the KG/Ray Allen summer of 2006

aldridge is a psuedo-star, he will not ever win you a championship, look at the blazer's performance. youd trade that pick for this career loser? forget that

I have always thought that DA plan A. is to trade picks, sully or AB and a vet for the $$$ to get Aldridge or K Love.

If he pulls it off a core of Rondo, Green and Aldrdge will be able to make some noise in the east.

Also, if the C's traded away that pick they'd have no incentive to assure it was that high anyway.

I agree with this somewhat.  Portland has similar surrounding talent as Rondo/Green. He might not want to even come here.  I like Portland's draft pick this year, and they just picked up Robin Lopez.  I think Portland will be better this year, and If they make the playoffs this year, he might want to stay.
