MarShon Brooks - steal of this trade?

1. Guy averaged 13 points, 4 boards, 2 assists and 1 steal per in 29 MPG as a rookie.

2. Has a nose for the rim on offense

3. A decent shot and a decent mid range game

4. Is only 24 and maybe ready to grow up a little

5. Has the physical tools to be a good defender

6. About to play with (unless traded beforehand...) the best point he's played with in his career in Rondo - a guy who can set him up all night.

Apparently a knucklehead but if he buys into the system and puts in the work I think he has the tools to be a very good off guard.

How ironic would it be if Danny makes up for taking JJJ over Brooks but the kid comes back in this trade and turns out to be a steal for us?

I'm curious to see if playing with Rondo in an uptempo system helps him turn that corner of growth in his game and his personal maturity.

I have a felling he could be a nice surprise.

No, I don't have much hope for his potential. One-dimensional guys have to be superior at that one thing.

Brooks isn't a superior scorer, he's just "okay" at it.

I don't really agree that this is so clear.

Deron Williams is a perfectly capable assist guy.  He's a legitimate 20 points and 10 assists a night guy.

If anything, playing off a guy like Deron is easier because Deron commands more attention from his defender.

Ha I wish, I was a lurker till after the inital run with KG/PP/Ray.

Plus I wasn't nearly as cynical in college about my C's. Man I loved that PP/Walker team something fierce.

Not sure about 5.  He seems built like rail.  Not sure he has the physical tools to be good defensively.

I think Brooks has gone from overrated to a bit underrated. His flaws are well known, but there is a place for 6'5" SGs with long arms that can score and create their own shot. He has serious defensive potential with that kind of length as well.

I think his ceiling is an above-average starter, floor is 10th man gunner, and with a little player development could be a solid rotation guy. It all depends on:

1) Playing above-average defense (which he has all the tools for)
2) Maturing as a player, i.e. becoming coachable

Both reachable goals, and considering he almost wasn't in this trade I'll take it.

I guess my memory is playing tricks on me, I thought I remembered you as one of the original main posters when I first joined, which only speaks positively of my perception of your basketball knowledge.

Oh man I loved that PP/Walker team, that Nets win where they came back from the greatest deficit (at the time) in NBA history. They weren't that good but they loved Boston and often played their hearts out.

Hopefully I can channel that feeling and be happy rooting for a team with a 7 or 8 seed ceiling next year.

I watched that huge comeback in my dorm room on a tiny TV with the sound off playing CS because I was so mad at the awful start, then they came alive.

Man that was glorious, almost as good as the Finals comeback against LAL. I still proudly have my Ray Allen picture where he's laying it up on Sasha Vujacic that sealed that game for us.

 I'm glad we got him right now we have Bradley a defensive specialist, Lee a little bit of everything, And Brooks A flat out scorer, By the way he has a 7'1" wingspan over 3" longer than are seven foot center. Funny huh.

He is a nice addition due to potential. I think (assuming Lee gets traded) he and Crawford battle it out for the 3rd guard spot in the rotation. The winner may develop some value in the league but both need to improve IQ and overall game.
