Courtney Lee    for   Kendrick Perkins
Brandon Bass

Our roster is unbalanced and Kelly Olynyk is a power forward. That is what Danny Ainge said to the media. He also says we aren't tanking.

Perkins only has 2 years left on his contract, while lee has 3. So the trade would save us a little money in two years when Rajon Rondo is a free agent. Our roster now will look considerably more balanced:

Rajon Rondo/Brooks/Pressey
Avery Bradley/Bogans/Crawford
Jeff Green/Wallace/Joseph
Jared Sullinger/Olynyk/Humphries/Randolph
Kendrick Perkins/Iverson/Melo

I think its important we have toughness on this team, even if we aren't winning.

This trade makes Rondo smile too.

I think its pretty obvious why OKC does this trade. They have a lot of bench to fill out, with only the MLE. They just drafted a center, and could go with a dalembert type for a little while.

I would like the trade but not sure that OKC would want to loose perks size and replace him in the rotation with Bass?

I also was wondering to myself if a Humphires for Perk and a pick trade could be worked out. This would at least give OKC a volume rebounder in their big man rotation.

Is Bass' contract also 3 more years? If that's the case I probably do it. However, I think the whole point of OKC hypothetically moving Perkins is to clear up future space isn't it? What is their motivation to deal him otherwise (I don't think you can count on Adams for at least a year or two)

Bass' contract expires in 2 years. So helps our salary situation just slightly.

OKC needs a better bench. This splits one asset into two assets and gives them security in case Jeremy Lamb can't find any success.

Their roster is very short right now, and this trade gives them depth in a similar way that the blesoe for reddick and dudley trade gave the clippers depth because they'll still have the MLE to spend.

I think Humphries (expiring) and a pick for Perk's contract is a fair deal that makes sense for both sides. Although I admit to twinges of nostalgia, Perk's contract is AWFUL. So we should st something for taking it on.

I'm not a fan, better to try and move Lee by himself if you really feel the need to dump his salary.

I doubt OKC would consider it anyways.

Wait are we giving or getting the pick? If we are getting a pick I would do it. There is no way I would pay a pick to take on an extra year of salary.

As I said in a different thread, I would love Perkins on this team. His ability to be a superb defender despite limited foot speed would be a good thing to have around our other bigs with limited foot speed. He is tough, and loves the Celtics so if it is between paying him or paying Bass and Lee or Humphries, I choose Perk, mostly because I think his effect on the younger players would be more positive than the alternatives.

I'd love to swap out two good players for one less good player. Perkins is Rondo's buddy, he's 7ft tall and he's offensively broken. That is basically perfect for us this year.

Bass/Lee/Olynyk for Perkins/PJ3 would be ideal.

No, Perkins no longer has a role on this team. Time to speed up this roster, and we're well on our way to doing just that.

Well i hate swapping olynyk for pj3.

But I also like that perkins gives the c's a second guy from the Championship team who can preach about what it takes to be a champion. Its a second leader in the locker room and one who backs what rondo says. We need a mentor for our young big man. And its not like learning defense from perkins will make olynyks offense disappear!

It also makes us worse now and better later on the court.

Why we would have any desire whatsoever to reacquire the rotting, fetid corpse of Kendrick Perkins, let alone his outsized contract, escapes me.

Trading for overpriced alleged "fan favorites" makes Pitino look like Red Auerbach.

Terrible idea.

I like that idea, but I think you should try to get something better for taking Perk's awful contract.

Humphries+China Boys for Perk+PJ3+OKC's 2017 top 10 protected pick could work for both teams.

OKC gets probably the best player (given Perk's condition after injuries) in Humphries, who is also an expiring, and the China Boys can be cut or give them some end of the bench bodies. Humphries on a year contract could help them now, and they keep Lamb who could help their bench now that Kevin Martin will be gone.

The Cs get fan favorite Perk on terrible contract, but they get "potential" in PJ3, and what could become a good pick (in the teens) in 2017. If OKC is so bad by then that the pick gets protected, it could roll a year or two, or be swapped for 2 second rounders.

That could be fair for both teams, and I'd do it.

You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Reasons:
1. For a contract that is more oversized (or two contracts that total a more oversized contract)
2. Veteran leadership
3. Nostalgia
4. Since we don't have a legit center on our team.

Yeah that's how I see it. We are moving to an uptempo system. I love Perkins, but he doesn't fit with our goals.
Celtics fan for life.
