With Sacramento withdrawing its offer to Iguodala and Evans not yet signing his offer sheet from New Orleans, I got to thinking:

How about a potential Rondo to the Kings deal? Seems like what Evans was being offered and what Rondo currently makes is similar. I wonder if Danny would be able to get Evans and a 2014 #1 for maybe Rondo and either the 2014 Brooklyn pick or the 2015 Clippers pick?

That would likely give the Celtics two lottery picks (and maybe very high ones) in a stacked 2014 draft.

Pairing Rondo (a pass first pg) with Cousins would make a lot of sense for the Kings moving forward. On the flip side, Ainge has always liked Evans and obviously getting another top pick in 2014 is very appealing.

I’d only do this if the Celts are able to keep their own 2014 pick. Love Rondo but at this point, I think the team needs a full-on rebuild. Collecting yet another likely lottery pick in a stacked draft is appealing (to me, at least). Plus, Evans is a great talent and only 23. He will be just hitting his prime by the time they are ready to contend again (my guess would be 3 years). Rondo would be over 30 and rapidly approaching the end of his prime.

Thoughts?

I want absolutely no part in Evans and the contract he's commanding.

PG - Rajon Rondo, Isiah Thomas
SG - Marcus Thornton, Ben McLemore
SF - Andre Iguodala, Travis Outlaw
PF - Jason Thompson, Patrick Patterson
C  - DeMarcus Cousins, Chuck Hayes

That could be really good team.

If they can get Iggy + Rondo, that is a playoff team. Not a lottery team. Heck even if they have to sacrifice M.Thornton in a sign and trade for Iggy. They are still a playoff team.

If they strike out on Iggy, I think Rondo can bring them up to 35-40 wins. Boston would net a late lottery pick in the deal.

I guess I'm a.) assuming they get Rondo INSTEAD of Iguoldala and b.) rolling the dice that a team led by Rondo and Cousins (in a very tough Western Conference) has the potential to either implode or at least not work right away.

Subtracting Iggy from your roster, I don't think that team is all that impressive and don't see them as likely to overtake any of the Western playoff teams.

Very good idea! I am not a pro-tanker. HOWEVER, having said that, if you're going to tank, then it should be done the right way.

In my opinion, the right way is NOT to purposely hold out Rondo for most of the season, even though your paying him 11 million. Makes no sense.

If you go this route, not only do you get value for Rondo in Evans but you do get Sacramento's 2014 draft pick, which could be VERY valuable.

As for the Kings, as you mentioned, I've got to think they'd be very tempted to pair Rondo with Cousins.

I like it.

Can't we try a deal that doesn't give us Tyreke Evans?

Sacramento traded away its 2014 first-round pick (top-12 protected) with Omri Casspi for JJ Hickson.

Meh, let's say even if Sacramento gets Iguodala, I am not convinced that's going to be a contending team. It certainly could be and it would be a fun team to watch.

However, I think Sacramento could just as easily sink as they could swim, with that lineup.

Remember that Rondo is temperamental and does have off-nights, Cousins is a great center but does have his "moments" and I've never been a big Iguoadala guy.

Hence, the Kings 2014 draft pick could even be higher than ours.

Hell if they agreed to it, I would even ship Bradley with Rondo to Sacramento and get back Ben McClemore. I've got a feeling he's going to be one of the steals of the draft.

[dang]! Weren't there reports that Charlotte was looking to move Ben Gordon and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist?

Maybe deal Rondo and the 2014 Brooklyn pick to the Bobcats for Gordon, MKG and their 2014 1st.

Man a lot of teams have traded 2014 first round picks with various bits of protection.

Thanks.  Guess I didn't do enough research before posting.

Ouch is right! A perfect example of why they're the Kings...

Rondo for Evans is not value for us.  We are getting hosed in this deal.   I think you could do AB for Evans as it is more probable.

This is the deal that will never die on Celticsblog. Thankfully it's about to!
