Gay is talented and spectacular but I don't think he helps a team win.

So, if Toronto were interested in expiring for Gay, do you think they would take Humphries (expiring), either Bass or Terry and a first for Gay? They would have to take on the long term salary of Bass or Terry but they could get a pick.

We would make a deal that would keep us under the tax and get an asset (albeit one that is overpaid) for less than the players full value.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Pistons are clearly done being a cellar dweller very aggressive this offseason, what if Danny budges and detroit courts a starting 5 of

Rondo
B.Knight
Rudy Gay
Josh smith
Greg Monroe

Preety good contending team right there.

This is what I keep thinking about.  While he is still a risky prospect, I have a hard time imagining Danny getting a prospect with higher upside than Drummond for Rondo.

And both Gay and Smith have been connected to Rondo, and it could be a package deal.

I have looked at the numbers, and I believe Detroit could sign Smith, trade Drummond and Jerebko for Rondo (using cap space as well), and then send Villanueva and Stuckey for Gay.

That gives Detroit a very interesting team, and at the very least makes them relevant again.  And if it doesn't work, Rondo and Gay come off the books in 2 years anyways.

Toronto might need a pick or something to sweeten the deal, but this would give them a decent amount of cap space next summer, which would be what they would be looking for...as well as a pole position in the tanking derby.

And Boston gets to jump more firmly into the tanking derby themselves, while also getting a guy with the potential to be a franchise center.  It's tough giving up Rondo, but I think that is the type of deal that could make it worthwhile (depending on what you think of Drummond).

Win-win-win.
