The Detroit Pistons are expected to pursue Rajon Rondo if the Boston Celtics make him available.

Danny Ainge has said that calls have only been incoming about the availability of Rondo and that he is not looking to trade him.

Rondo is currently recovering from a torn ACL.

Pistons appear to be making a run at Josh Smith as well.

I'm sure Ainge would require either Monroe or Drummond for starters, given he'd asked Dallas for Dirk.

Too bad the Pistons don't have a 2014 1st to give up: it's headed to Charlotte (albeit with protections).

I am not surprised.  They really need a PG (well, if they let Calderon go).

The problem is, I don't think Danny would listen unless Monroe or Drummond were in the package (and he would probably ask for Knight too), and that may be a non-starter for Detroit.

Edit: forgot about the Josh Smith rumors.

I actually think Detroit could make an interesting team if they sign Smith, and trade Drummond to Boston for Rondo.  Smith would be a good fit next to Monroe.

Sure, just give up Monroe/Drummond and Knight.

They have been one of the obvious fits all along - with New Orleans and Utah, both of whom seem to have addressed their need on draft day.

I have trouble believing they'd give up Drummond or Monroe.

Would they surrender Caldwell-Pope, Knight and another asset?

Is there any non-center the Pistons aren't interested in?

They seem to be under the impression that taking back Gerald Wallace's contract and sending back expiring deals and Brandon Knight would be enough to get Rondo.

I wouldn't consider any trade idea that wasn't headlined by Monroe or Drummond. No exceptions.

We are in no rush to move Rondo, there will be a team out there willing to overpay for him if we do move him. Drummond or Monroe or we just keep playing the waiting game.

Rondo for Drummond, Stuckey, and unprotected first round pick in either 2014 or 2015 draft.

They'd have to give up either Drummond or Monroe, who make about the same salary.  Monroe is currently more essential to what they do.  Drummond would become a key piece to the Cs' future, or a future trade chip.

They would also need to include Stuckey to make the salary match work and to give us a PG in return.  Stuckey would be great because he's an expiring contract next season.  Ainge could flip him in a trade or simply let him walk after the season, clearing $8.5 million from the books.

A first round pick would need to be thrown in to sweeten the pot, in my opinion.

Funny thought. If we trade Rondo we might be the only team in the league without a very good to elite PG or a super young prospect PG in the whole league.

I think this is great to hear.  Let Detroit and Houston and whoever get into a bidding war for Rondo and see just what we can get.

Yea, I'm strongly on the "keep Rondo" bus and there's absolutely no way I even pick up the phone unless Detroit is offering at least Monroe or Drummond.

That's most likely what Ainge would ask for.  Drummond, Stuckey, 1st round pick in 2015.

Except Stepien Rule prevents the Pistons from trading their 2015 1st rounder.

If they offered Drummond, I'd do it in a heartbeat. A lot of people say he has no drive, but, if he can improve on that, I think he'll be the next great big man. Great finisher inside, great rebounder, great shot-blocker, great defender, and a better passer than most point guards (seriously).

What about Indy, Wolves, Knicks, Rockets, bobcats, raptors, kings, magic?
