At 1:53 in the video

This was posted in April on youtube .

I have to imagine he is going to be held out until at least January. Why risk him being hurt again when there is no chance at contending ?

Tank time, losing is winning this year .

Holding out as long as you can isn't always the asnwer either.

Evrybody's body is different. It's really up to the doctors first then him. For every Derrick Rose their can be an Adrian Peterson.

But if staying off it longer 100% guerantee's a return to normal Rondo then by all means do it. I'm just saying with injuries like this nothhing is definite.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

It literally makes zero sense to bring Rondo back until at least half way through the season .

What is there to gain from it ?

No sense in trading him either because we aren't going to get anything close to fair value .

He is under contract for a few more years, at a great price .

Let him come back slowly and work his value up again.

Adrian Peterson isn't a human being so it's kind of moot.

Keeping Rondo healthy and on the team while tanking has the highest ceiling of potential moves for us.  Can you imagine him throwing alley oops to Wiggins?  Granted, it could also blow up in our faces a hundred times over, but there is such potential.....

If he is physically capable, why can't he come back at the start of the season, with limited minutes as a starting point for working his value up?

It doesn't really make sense to hold him out if he is healthy and cleared to play.  I can understand playing it safe if he is not comfortable physically, but I don't think it makes sense to force him to sit if he is willing and able to play ahead of schedule.

Maybe thread worthy, but since it seems about 65 a day are started here lately, are one of the '14 draftees really compatible with Rondo, given the age gap? If they do manage to land a top 5 pick, they may find themselves at a crossroads as whether to keep it or trade it, or trade Rondo. I guess it could potentially be the mirror image of the Celtics/Sonics #5 for Ray swap.

Oh and of course DWest and Wally.....

let him sit out the season and come back healthy in 2015.  We'll have a lot of options then and probably a top 5 pick to build around.

I know that the typical surgery to repair a torn ACL normally requires anywhere between 4 to 12 month of recovery time (although it obviously depends case to case as we've seen with Derrick Rose.)  Rondo had his surgery on February 12, which means he could hypothetically be ready for basketball before the season starts.  If Rondo takes the Rose route to his basketball return and it takes him a full year to come back, that would put him on pace to be back with about 30 games remaining on the 2013-14 schedule.

For reference, here are some other NBA players who suffered ACL injuries and their respective recovery times:

Recovery Timetables

7 Months
Bonzi Wells* (April 6, 2001)
Kendrick Perkins (June 15, 2010)

8 Months
Jamal Crawford (July 2001)
Leon Powe (April 19, 2009)

9 Months
Al Jefferson* (February 8, 2009)
David West (March 26, 2011)
Iman Shumpert (April 28, 2012)
Ricky Rubio (March 9, 2012)

10 Months
Al Harrington* (January 23, 2002)
Josh Howard (February 22, 2010)
Michael Redd* 1st injury (January 25, 2009) ACL, MCL

11 Months
Corey Brewer* (November 26, 2011)
Tony Allen* (November 2, 2007)
Eric Maynor* (January 7, 2012)

12+ Months
Jason Smith* - 14 months (August 6, 2008)
Nene* - 12 months (November 2, 2005)
Adam Morrison* - 12 months (October 20, 2007)
Michael Redd 2nd injury - 14 months (January 10, 2010) ACL, MCL
Shaun Livingston - 20 months (February 26, 2007) torn ACL, MCL, PCL, lateral meniscus, disclocation of patella and tibia-femoral joint
Baron Davis** - TBD (May 6, 2012) ACL, MCL, patellar tendon
Derrick Rose - TBD (April 28, 2012)

while that's true, I think it's kind of a waste for Rondo to sit out during his prime years :-\...

But what's the solution? I'm of the thinking that sitting out, and playing on a team that wins 36 games, is basically an equal waste.

Rondo is one of the ultimate competitors in this league. He isn't just going to sit out the season because he thinks we may get a top 5 pick. If he is healthy, he is playing, and he will always be of the mentality that we have a chance.

If we are horrible when he returns and remain horrible until the end of the season, it makes sense to rein him in a little bit; however, don't count on Rondo just sitting it out for the team - if that's the case, he will be demanding a trade and rightfully so.

It is much more of a problem with Jeff Green, as 3 of the top 5 picks are going to be SFs or SF/PF hybrids.  The only top prospect at PG is Marcus Smart.  I'd actually take a long look at Willie Cauley-Stein from Kentucky as a Center - he could stand to gain some weight though.  I think Jabari Parker outweighs him right now and he's 4 inches shorter and plays SF.

Well, maybe you know Rondo better than I do but Kobe Bryant could only will the '04-05 Lakers to 34 wins. Granted, that Laker team was awful and got serious contributions from Chucky Atkins and Chris Mihm, but Kobe played 66 games and is pretty competitive in his own right. Next year's Celtics will have lost Pierce and KG. They will likely have replaced Paul's play making ability with Bradley, and replaced KG's minutes with a guy who got a concussion trying to walk through a doorway. I guess I don't see Rondo overcoming all of this through force of will.

The only way I see Rondo's season not being wasted is if he's traded to a contender.
