Lol, I couldn't believe this

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/howard-asks-rockets-more-star-171234193--nba.html

Dwight hasn't even signed with Houston yet, and already he's asking if they can bring in another star player.

If he's so concerned about playing with star players, then why didn't he consider the idea of coming to Boston?

He could've played with Rondo and then Josh Smith would've likely followed.

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding the Rondo/Josh Smith/Dwight idea that has been mentioned plenty of times lately in this forum.

If Dwight and Josh wanted to come to Boston, what assets and cap space would we use to acquire both and still hold on to Rondo?  Even as a hypothetical it makes no sense.

If Dwight wanted to come to Boston, then the Lakers could've agreed to a sign and trade.

Celts could've possibly sent Jeff Green/Brandon Bass/Sullinger all to the Lakers in a S/T for Howard
(or maybe gotten a 3rd team involved)

As for Smith, the Celts could've dealt Humph's expiring 12 million contract and a draft pick or 2 to Atlanta in another sign/trade deal. Maybe even a trade exception, if we end up getting one from Brooklyn.

It certainly wouldn't have been the easiest undertaking, but it could've been arranged.

That way, both Lakers and Hawks wouldn't have lost their players for nothing.

I don't think either team would be interested in such a trade.

Next offseason, the contracts of Kobe, Pau, Metta, and Steve Blake expire.  The Lakers plan to have maximum salary cap space that summer.

The Hawks would need multiple picks in that trade.  Otherwise, they'd be basically buying a first round pick for the cost of Humphries contract (spending $10 million on Humphries to get a pick).  The going rate for 1st Round picks is about $3 million.  They'd literally be throwing away millions with that trade.

The Lakers and Hawks would probably rather lose their players for nothing than make either of those deals.

Eh, I think  the Hawks would be more amenable than some think. They have to come in above the salary floor, so they have to spend cap somewhere. Its looking unlikely that they'll be able to get something substantial in this free agency class, taking on a large expiring contract would allow them to preserve their cap for the 2014 offseason, when the free agency class is expected to be better.

Fair point, the salary floor is really the only reason the Hawks might consider such a deal.

I don't think the Lakers are looking to take back 2014 salary in a Dwight sign-and-trade though.

I just don't understand.

How does Dwight Howard have 3+ million fans? And only Paul Pierce have 2.9 million fans and Kevin Garnett have 1.9 million fans, according to their official Facebook pages?!  ???

This Dwight Howard guy always complain and whine. I want to call him a female dog but we are refrained from saying any bad words in this forum.  :'(

I would have asked the same question. Howard and Harden are not enough. What is the roster going to look like? Howard should ask every team the same questions about how the roster is going to look.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
I would bite on

Rondo, Lee for Asik, Parsons, Beverely, and a pick

Lets hope Dallas and Houston get into a rondo bidding war

I was actually thinking about this.

If you were Ainge, and the Rockets offered you Lin and Asik for Rondo AND if they'd be willing to take Bass's contract of our hands, would you do it?

Personally, I would rather keep Rondo and try to get Josh Smith here BUT the thought of getting rid of Bass's contract could be mighty appealing.

I mean Asik is a good center, Lin is okay but you'd also have ALOT of cap space for 2015 as Lin/Asik will be off the books by then.

And hopefully, you can rid yourself of Courtney Lee's contract along the way as well.

If the Celts did this, then by my calculations the only guys they'd have under contract for 2015 would be Green, Brooks, Sully, Wallace, Olynyk and any other draftees signed between now and then.

They'd must be able to have enough cap space for a max player in 2015.

I don't know if this is true, but if it is Dwight is an idiot.  Lin, Harden, Parsons, Asik, Howard not enough?  They still have some nice assets as well.  They have the rights to about 8 euro players along with guys like Terrence Jones, Isiah Cannan, Montijuenes, Smith, Albrecht etc.

No chance. Lakers already said they won't agree to sign and trades that will require them to take back contracts past the 2013-2014 season. There's no way they take back Green and Bass.

Lakers know it's better to lose Howard for nothing rather than take back assets. They will have 50 million in cap space for the 2014 season should he walk.

I think the only issue with including Courtney Lee would be that the Celts might have to wait a full year after they acquired Lee from the very same team, being the Rockets.

If i am Rondo I am telling Josh Smith to get Howard on board with coming to Boston. The 3 of them could raise hell in the east. IDC what anyone says on this board. You get a defensive coach with that group and they would shut a lot of teams down.

Houston has one star (harden), and 2 average starters(lin and asik)... then the rest of the line up is a bunch of no names.

i think its fair for dwight to ask for more stars. their power forward is greg smith, i've never even heard of him.

Then switch Lee for Bass or something?

I really like the core deal, though. I'm really high on Asik.

Me too. And if you can rid yourself of either Lee or Bass, you set yourself up for massive cap space for 2015 (when Love, Aldridge and Marc Gasol are free agents.)
